Jess glanced over and caught two brown eyes staring at her just before they turned away. Jess had never been the shy type and was going to introduce herself but before she could get up the bell rang and Brian was gone. She picked up her coffee told Teressa and Madi that she would see them at the meet and greet and pulled out her phone to check what she had first period.

Period 1: Art

Period 2: AP US History

Period 3: AP Pre Calculus

Period 4: Study Hall

Period 5: Library Aide

Period 6: AP Chemistry

"Jeez, this is going to be a busy year." Jess thought.

Jess turned right on her way out of the cafe and headed down to the art room. Art was an elective. Not every student add to take it and the classes usually had a mix of kids from all of the grades. Jess sat down next to two girls she vaguely recognized. They both had blond hair. One had her hair curled and one didn't. She smiled at them.

"You guys must be freshmen, right?"

"Yeah, we are" the one with curly hair replied. "I'm Lily William and this is my twin sister Libby."

"I'm Jessica Greenland but people usually just cal....." Jess was cut off.

"Oh, we know who you are" Libby giggled. "We saw you and your friend give a presentation at the town meeting last year."

"And you coached our cheer team at the middle school" Lily added in.

"That's right, I thought you guys looked familiar"

The second bell rang and the teacher shut the door.

"My name is Ms. Smith"

Boy was she a sight to see. She was wearing a floor length blue, pink, and purple tie-dye dress with her thick black hair pulled back into a ballerina bun with a rainbow scrunchy. She was also wearing a headband that matched the scrunchy and big chunky white beaded costume jewelry that you could find in the back of your grandmother's closet.

"Today, class, we are going to be painting self-portraits. I want these to be finished in class today. I want you to work quickly but thoughtfully. On this table, I have set out all of the supplies you can use."

She walked over to a table that was covered in all kinds of different craft supplies. It was like being in kindergarten again. There were paints, colored pencils, clay, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, pom-poms, and stickers. If you could think of it, it was on that table.

"Now everyone shut your eyes and think about what you want your self-portrait to look like. Now everyone have an idea to build off of? Good! On my count. 1, 2, 3."

Everyone jumped out of their seat and ran to grab whatever they needed to create the art piece they had just dreamed up. Libby grabbed some googly eyes, yarn, and markers. Lily found a canvas and some watercolors. Jess wanted to paint so she found some oil paints and good brushes and got to work.

"Times up. Everyone step away from your artwork. Is everyone happy with what they have created? I'm glad. We will present tomorrow morning. Have a nice day everyone"

And with that, the bell rang and everyone filed out of the class. Jess waved goodbye to Lily and Libby who were heading the opposite way as her and headed off to her locker in the junior wing. She was checking her Snapchat and not paying attention when she ran straight into someone. She fell back and landed on the floor.

"Oh my goodness I'm so sorry. Are you ok?"

She looked up to see the same brown eyes she had seen earlier that day in the cafeteria looking down at her. Brian held out his hand and pulled her to her feet.
