Leigh-Anne had never been close with her family. Sure, she got alone fine with them, but it was never a special bond. She didn't feel like she could go to them about her problems or anything.
This was why, she was shocked when her mother came by. She loved her mother to death, but it was so unexpected. The woman never made an effort to come before, why now?
There was a thick silence between Leigh-Anne and her mother. They sat on a couch that was in a common room. Neither knew what to say, and it was just awkward.
"I miss you back home," Rowan, Leigh-Anne's mother said. It was the first thing the woman had said since seeing her daughter.
Leigh-Anne didn't know what to say. She didn't like this hospital one but, but she did like Jade. That girl alone made Leigh-Anne not miss home. She couldn't tell her mother that though.
So, she just nodded. At the moment, she couldn't look her mother in the face. She was still hurt that the woman would send her here as if she had some type of problem.
Rowan would never admit it, but the doctor never said Leigh-Anne had to come to the hospital. That fact made her feel guilty.
"It's different here," Leigh-Anne finally said, a sigh leaving her mouth. "People here don't talk much."
This was as far as the two's conversation had gone. Visiting times came to an end, and they spent most of their time sitting in silence.
Leigh-Anne walked down the long, boring hallway back to her room. Jade was probably still in there. Leigh-Anne smiled at the thought of Jade in some type of pajamas, coloring a picture.
So, it was a shock when Leigh-Anne walked into her room to see Jesy sitting on the bed next to Jade. You've got to understand, Leigh-Anne is a very jealous person. Seeing the two girls so close bothered her.
"Hi, Leigh-Anne," Jesy stood up from Jade's bed. It may have been her imagination, but Leigh-Anne could've swore Jesy had a smug look on her face.
Leigh-Anne completely ignored Jesy, looking directly at Jade who sat quietly. "What's going on in here?"
Jade looked between the two girls, her face full of confusion. There was an obvious tension in the room. Leigh-Anne's face alone told her that.
"I get to see my father," Jade said, her voice quiet like usual. "I finally am allowed to go see him."
The look on Jade's face made Leigh-Anne want to be happy for the girl, but she just couldn't. Not with Jesy looking at Jade the way she was at the moment.
"I'm happy for you," Leigh-Anne forced out. Silently, she hoped Jesy would get the hint to leave.
Jesy finally turned away from Jade and looked to Leigh-Anne. "Jade wanted you to go along as well. You both can leave tomorrow, and you have to be back at a certain time. I have to go to supervise."
Well, Leigh-Anne was happy for a split second that she was getting out of this hell hole. Jesy telling her she would be joining them just made her happiness die.
"That sounds lovely," Leigh-Anne said sarcastically.
Yes, Jesy was a nice girl, but just knowing she had a history with Jade sent Leigh-Anne off edge. Maybe she could have a small talk with Jesy to get her point across about Jade being hers.
Jesy left the room after an awkward silence grew upon the trio, and Leigh-Anne couldn't have been more happy.
She was sure she sounded a bit extra, but she didn't care."So," Leigh-Anne sat on her bed. She smiled at Jade who looked to be getting shy. "Where is your dad? Why doesn't he come to visit you?"
Jade had a small ring on her finger that she was twisting around. "Well," Jade took a deep breath. "He is in jail. I haven't seen him since I came here."
Right now, Leigh-Anne wanted to slap herself. She regretted asking Jade about her father, and the poor girl looked so upset. Of course, there was no way she could have known, but Leigh-Anne still felt bad.
You know, most people would have said they were sorry or something along those lines, but when Leigh-Anne asked what he did, Jade was shocked. Leigh-Anne knew she wouldn't get an answer because of the look she was getting from Jade.
"When are we going?" Leigh-Anne asked after a thick tension grew. Sometimes, she had no limits. She was curious as well.
Jade finally looked up at Leigh-Anne, but the look on her face was a nervous one. "We are going tomorrow," she mumbled.
It became silent once again, but this time, it wasn't awkward. Both were deep in thought, so deep they couldn't speak to one another.
Ten minutes had passed by before Jade spoke up. "He killed her," her voice was softer than usual. "He killed them both."
Jade dropping this bomb on Leigh-Anne made the older girl speachless. Desperatly, she wanted to know who this "her" and "them" were, but she didn't want to make Jade uncomfortable once more.
Finally, Leigh-Anne decided to be bold once more and asked the question on her mind. "Who did he kill, Jade? Who is she?"
The room became dead silent, and it seemed as everyone else in the world was silent as well. The words tasted bad in Jade's mouth, but she knew she had to say it. She's never said it before, but now, it's time.
A single tear slid down her beautiful face, memories of the horrible day flashing in her mind. She shook from the memories. The memories that haunted her and has for years.
"Maggie. He killed Maggie."
