Chapter One

One year ago
Hearing the ringtone of my phone alarm going off sometimes put me in a bad mood when first waking up, this was one of those days. At first I just laid there staring at it with my eyebrows scrunched downward hoping it would shut the fuck up and leave me in peace but no such luck, so after awhile I finally dragged myself from my comfortable bed that felt the best in the morning after waking up, but heaven forbid you try to just relax on it during the day.

After finally reaching my phone I turned down the blasted volume and switched off my alarm to which I sighed in relief. Looking around my room I noticed that it was a mess as usual, partly of me being lazy and also not having time.

Ever since I got my dream job as a nurse I've been getting as much hours as I can so that I can pay off my nursing class and also help my parents get food and pay the bills. Hearing a soft knock on my door I answered with a respectable yes?

Just making sure you're awake, my mom responded back then I heard her footsteps walking away, most likely going to check on my older sister to make sure she's getting ready as well for her job at the pharmacy since she's opening up today. Walking back to my bed I sat down, looking out my window I see the sky is just starting to turn a beautiful dark blue, while the sun not up yet which makes me want to snuggle back up in bed.

Holding my phone I hit the on button to check the time while also blinding myself, making me close my eyes quickly and groaning at the little headache I got from it. Opening my eyes again I see that it's already 4:35 in the morning and I have to be in the hospital by 6:00. Getting off my bed I walk to my chair that holds my neatly folded scrubs with just a little bit of wrinkles.

Not letting it get to me I put it on my bed then grab my soft blue towel and fast walk to the bathroom and take a quick cold shower to wake myself up, get out then brush my teeth getting that nasty morning taste out of my mouth, making sure my teeth are up to my standards and my mouth wash leaves a cool minty taste making me feel better.

Running from the bathroom down the hallway I make it in my room to begin getting dressed putting on my black underwear and bra, then my navy blue scrubs after that I sat down and put my black socks and shoes on making sure the laces were tight.

Before getting up and stuffing my phone in one of my pockets after checking the time again and seeing it is 5:06. Looking into my sister's room I see that she's already gone, then I go into the living room noticing my mom sitting in her chair watching the news seeing that there's a 60% chance of rain today. I hope you have a good day at work tell dad I said the same, love you bye I say while grabbing my keys and heading out the door just barely hearing her say something similar.

Going down the porch steps I head straight for my black Ford ranger truck, feeling sprinkles of rain drops hitting the back of my neck making me shiver since my hair is pulled up in a bun that may be a bit messy but still looks nice.

I should have grabbed a jacket, I say to myself while climbing into the truck and clicking my seatbelt, then started it up and headed into town.
