My friends and I decided to spend the last day of Summer by going to the beach. In just one day, we all will be Seniors at Garber High School. The last three years have been a set of ups and downs, but this year I want to make it count. All everybody talks about is college and what they want to do with the rest of their lives. I am a journalist for the school newspaper, The Graber Times. Writing is something that I have always enjoyed and it is something that I want to do.
My friend Nash Keys and I have been in the club ever since Freshman year. That is where we started talking and became good friends. We met two girls, Astrid Bosa and Janelle Doge, during our first year and the four of us became close. Fletcher Jenson was new halfway through Freshman year and he was having trouble finding friends. We all took him in and the five of us became the best of friends. Astrid and Nash started dating around Sophomore year and are still together to this day. I started to develop feelings for Janelle, but she always talks to me about how she really likes Fletcher and really wants to be with him. I've decided to not tell her that I liked her and just try to keep a distance.
Now, Summer was coming to an end and we were gonna make our last day count.
"You ready Brody?" asks Fletcher from downstairs.
"I'll be right down," I said. I packed my swimsuit and towel in a sling and start heading downstairs to the car where Nash, Astrid, and Janelle are waiting.
"What took you so long?" Asks Astrid laughing as I get in the passenger seat of the car. She is sitting in the back leaned against Nash as he has his arm around her.
"Sorry I was trying to find my swimsuit," I answered laughing back.
"So did you find your speedo?" Asks Nash laughing.
"No but I wish I did. I could have had all the ladies looking at me," I say jokingly.
"He would of had all the women staring at his ass," says Janelle laughing.
Fletcher hops into the drivers seat and closes the door behind him. "Let's get this last day going!" He exclaims. We all cheer as he starts to drive away to the beach. Fletcher turns up and radio and we all sit as we listen to the music.
"Are you gonna try out for head journalist Brody?" asks Nash. Every year the club reelects a head journalist who basically runs the whole thing and make sure the stories are great for the paper. It always goes to a Senior.
"I don't know, I think you would be better as head journalist than me," I say.
"Are you kidding me! You would make an amazing head journalist. You deserve it way more than Todd Davidson," says Nash. Todd is another journalist for The Garber Times. He has always done everything in his power to one up Nash and I. He has been talking about being head journalist since Freshman year and now since he is also a Senior, he will be trying out.
"Don't let Todd get to you both, I am sure one of you will get it" says Astrid.
"Don't you want to be cheer captain?" Asks Janelle to Astrid.
"Ophelia is already captain. We voted during the Summer," answers Astrid. Ophelia Palmer is one of the head bitches of the school. She is super popular and always gets what she wants.
"It doesn't matter. I didn't get team captain for the football team but I am not upset," says Fletcher.
"Jackson Cooper is team captain isn't he?" I ask.
"Yeah he is," answers Fletcher. Jackson is popular just like Ophelia. Everyone thinks they would make a good power couple but she is not interested in him at all. Ophelia thinks she is too good for him, which I don't understand because he is the most popular guy at the school.
"We're finally here!" Exclaims Fletcher.
The water is blue as the sky and the birds fly above the beach together. Fletcher parks the car and we all get out and head to the bathrooms.
We get a spot at the beach and put down all of our stuff. Fletcher pulls out a frisbee and Nash and I join him and start throwing it at each other while Astrid and Janelle lay out in the sun getting a tan.
I throw the frisbee at Nash and I see a girl walking toward us. I take a better look at see that is is Ophelia.
"Is that Ophelia?" asks Nash.
"I think so," I say nervously.
She makes it to us and looks at us.
"What are you idiots doing at the beach?" she asks.
"We are just spending our last day of Summer here," Fletcher answers.
"Yeah I didn't actually need an answer I could care less. I just smelled whore from a mile away and knew it was Astrid," says Ophelia. She walks towards them and shakes Astrid. She gets up in a shock and sees that it is her.
"Oh, hi Ophelia," says Astrid.
"Listen up whore, we have cheer practice right after school tomorrow. The first football game is coming up and we cannot be looking like a couple of idiots," she says, "Good luck at the first game Fletcher, try not to suck so much."
Ophelia walks away.
"She might be a bitch, but she has a hot body," says Fletcher.
Nash and I just look at him and laugh a little at his comment.
"Don't let her get to you Fletcher, you were amazing last year," says Janelle smiling.
It is hard sometimes to see how she flirts with him. Fletcher knows I like her but he is completely clueless that she likes him. He Janelle and I to be together but she doesn't want me. I am not gonna let that get to me this year though. I have a whole year ahead of me.
I actually really want to get the head journalist position for the club. I know I just have to beat Todd at it. I am not gonna let him get to me with his comments. I know I am good at it and he can't stop me.
Hours go by and ten o'lock hits. We all gather back in Fletcher's car and he takes us home one by one. I am the last stop and he parks right out my driveway.
"Tomorrow is gonna be great," he says.
"Yeah it is," I say as I start getting out of the car.
"See you tomorrow!" He exclaims.
"See ya," I say and close the car door and start walking towards my house. I need to concentrate this year and work hard. As long as I stay focused, I know I will succeed this year. What is the worst that could possibly happen?
I hope you guys enjoyed this part. I plan on updating it almost everyday. Feel free to leave comments about what you think of it.
