The Dead One

Chapter 1

My alarm clock goes off making a loud noise. I turn it off in anger. Waking up is the worst. Today is the first day of Senior year. I am nervous yet excited at the same time.

I get up and start taking a shower. I brush my teeth, fix my hair, and put on jeans with a hoodie. I walk downstairs to find my mom and dad making breakfast.

"Did you sleep well last night?" asks my mom.

"Yeah I did," I answer.

"Was the beach fun yesterday?" asks my dad.

"Yeah it was I answered," as I grab a plate and put some eggs, french toast, and bacon on it. I sit at the table with my parents and the three of us eat.

My dad is drinking coffee and reading the newspaper while my mom is going on her phone. My dad works at the bank and my mom just stays home.

"Are you ready for Senior year?" asks my mom.

"Yeah I think so," I say as I take a bite of a piece of bacon.

I finish my breakfast and put my plate in the sink.

"Before you go, your mother and I want to talk to you," says my dad.

"Okay," I say worried. I walk back to the table.

"We just want to say that we are proud of you. Your grades have been really good and you have really been involved," says my mom.

"Thanks but I really just do the school newspaper, that is it" I say.

"That is still something. Do you think you will get head journalist? asks my dad.

"I don't know maybe," I say. I really want the position badly. I know Nash wants it too but I don't want any drama between the two of us. As long as it doesn't go to Todd I will be happy.

"Just be careful and have a good day," says my mom.

I get up from the table with my backpack and start heading to the door.

"I love you!" exclaims both of my parents.

"Love you too," I answer closing the door behind me.

The first periods of my dad went okay so far. I have almost all my classes with Janelle and Nash. The three of us are taking almost every AP class there is. Fletcher isn't dumb, but he doesn't do well as in school like the three of us. He loves football though and is hoping to get a scholarship from it.

Janelle is taking a few AP classes but she doesn't like to challenge herself too much. The lunch bell rings and I get out of class with Nash and Astrid.

In my first hour they show the announcements video that they put together yesterday. Ryland Trout is the new host for it. He has been waiting since Freshman year and now that he is a Senior, his time has come. The teacher begins to play the video.

"Hello Garber High School, I am Ryland Trout the new announcements host for the year. Today I have asked Senior class president Riley to join me."

Riley appears in the video and sits down next to Ryland.

"Hello everyone," she says "I know this year will be an amazing year for everyone. I just wanted to let all senior know that they need to start applying to colleges sometime soon."

I have applied to a few colleges so far during the summer. I have been accepted into two of them but I don't know which I want to go to yet. I really want to be a writer and I am still trying to figure out which is cheaper and a good school to go to for writing.

The first few periods have gone by and now it is time for lunch. We walk down the hall to the cafeteria but I notice that this one guy named Gavin is starring right at Nash. Nash looks back at him but just continues to keep walking and his face turns pale.
