Best Friends?

After Math class, I ran over to my locker to doodle and write some more about Brandon and his slideshow for me! But when I looked up from my notebook, instead of seeing Mackenzie, I saw two friends, one named Zoey, and the other Chloe. And they did NOT look happy with me, when I asked what was wrong, this was the response I got,

"Where WERE you?!" They both shouted in unison. "We were waiting for 20 minutes! And you STILL hadn't shown up! And then we see you in math class, gushing about whatever Brandon told you!"

"Guys, guys!" I said, trying to restore the peace, "I'm sorry I was late, it just took a little longer than I thought for Brandon to show me what he made for me! I'm really sorry, and I didn't mean to be a bad friend. To make it up to you, I could buy you both a treat from that new yogurt place you were talking about, Chloe!"

Even after I said that, they still had a sour look. I tried to make jokes with them to cheer them up, but it didn't work.

"Okay guys, what can I do to make it up to you? If you come over to my house tomorrow after school, I'll tell you everything that happened with me and Brandon."

Zoey and Chloe looked at each other and then Zoey piped up and said,

"Why not today? Are you suddenly too important for us today? *gasp* I know what it is!  Now that you're friends with Mackenzie, you don't want her to know what dorks we really are! That's cold, Nikki. Real cold."

"No, that's not it at all, you guys mean the world to me! It's just that Brandon asked me to hang out with him at Crazy Burger after school!"

"Okay," Zoey said, "You had better keep your promise this time."

"I will Zoey. I will. Best Friends again?"

"Best Friends," They both said together. I smiled and then they walked away.

"I'm glad I don't have two more drama queens in my life now!" I thought to myself, "That would be AWFUL! In more ways than one!"

After that drama, Mackenzie walked over to her locker and instead of putting her lip gloss on her lips, she put it in designer purse!

"Hey, Nikki? I have a question, how can I be like you? I mean, I've already given up lip gloss, and now I'm only using Chap-Stick. What else do I need to do?"

I was shocked by her question, SHE, MACKENZIE, QUEEN of drama? Wants to be like me??? Okay... I guess I'll just roll with it, so I calmly said to her,

"Okay," I said while I was thinking of what to say next, "Well, the first thing you need to do is... um... be really... kind, and...."

I wasn't sure what I was like, I guess I just hadn't given much thought to it, I just knew I was a good friend! Ah! That's another one!

I continued, "You have to be a good friend too, and HAVE good friends, like Chloe and Zoey!"

I could tell Mackenzie was writing all of these notes down in the notebook in her brain, in other words, it just looked like she paying REALLY close attention to what I was saying.

"Well, and two more things, you HAVE to stop telling people your better than them, and giving those snarky comebacks to people, no offense, and try to have a simpler wardrobe. No wearing, what seems like, FIVE inch stilettos, and stop wearing sassy sashay lip gloss, even the NAME of it sound CCP-ish. No offense."

"None taken," Mackenzie peacefully said, " I understand that I've been a full on BRAT ever since I met you. Before I met you, I didn't even CARE about my hair, lip gloss, designer bags, shoes, shirts-"

I interjected and said, "I get the idea, but why did you just start caring about what you looked like when I came to town?"

"Because," she paused for a second," Because you were so much prettier than I was. I wanted your life, looks and your incredibly normal family!"

I had to chuckle at that last remark, My normal family? My family was SO far from being normal! But I chuckled in my head, so nobody heard it but me.

"Don't worry Mackenzie, you should care less about looks, but PLEASE, tomorrow, don't come dressed as a garbage can because I said that!"

Mackenzie actually laughed a nice laugh (The first one I had EVER heard from her!) and said,

"Don't worry Nikki, I WON'T!" Then she walked away.

I couldn't afford to break the promise I made to Chloe and Zoey, so after school, I rode my bike over to the yogurt place and parked my bike in the bike stand. Zoey and Chloe finally showed up and they kept thanking me for the sweet thought of me buying them a treat.

I just LOVE my BFF's!
