a/n: this is so bad tbh i'm sorry in advance ://
"why would you think that?" stanley asks. he sounds defensive. he knows it, and mike knows it.
"i'm not as oblivious as bill is," he says. "or beverly, for that matter."
"i-i don't know what you mean," stan says.
"i mean, you can tell you love him. you act like it. before beverly and bill started dating, you and bill were inseparable."
"best friends are close," stan mumbles, but he knows it isn't an excuse. there's no excuse for the feeling stan gets just by looking at bill except for love. stanley uris loves bill denbrough, and it's the worst fucking thing he's ever felt. it's tearing him apart, even though he's trying to piece himself together. maybe the glue he's using isn't strong enough.
"when we were playing never have i ever at that part last weekend, you drank when susie said she'd never been in love," mike says. there's a softness to his voice, one that stan hasn't seen from the outgoing, confident boy since they were young teenagers and mike had just moved to derry. "bill is the only person i've ever seen you look at that way. the way he looks at beverly."
stan can feel tears soaking his bottom eyelashes, and he rubs his eyes quickly with the sleeve of his pullover.
stanley uris needs to pull himself together. he needs to get a grip and realize bill denbrough is not ever going to love him back. but it's too heavy of a concept for stanley to grasp, which is saying something, as the boy has always been quite smart. he can give you the answer to almost any math problem, explain almost any science experiment, but he can't tell you why he loves bill denbrough, or why bill doesn't love him back.
or, maybe he can.
the reason comes in the form of smooth, milky skin and fiery locks, with a bold spirit and brilliant confidence. beverly marsh is the reason bill denbrough doesn't love stanley uris.
or maybe it's because stan is gay and bill isn't.
at this thought, stanley crumbles. the people surrounding him are confused, his teacher worried as he breaks down in the middle of physics.
and as he's walked to the guidance office by mike hanlon, he can only think of blue eyes and soft laughter.
bill denbrough consumes stanley uris' mind.
and stanley uris despises him for it.
