Sweat ran down the boys dirt ridden face as he sprinted down the path. The twisting ivy and curved trees weaving a blanket of panic and terror.
The sounds of the fight still ringing in his ears and sending freezing chills down his spine. He wanted to turn around so desperately but his conscious warned him not to. The sceams of the village behind sending him into a spiraling haze.
The smoke rising into the creating a mirage of the faces of those he was leaving behind. The guilt was unimaginably excruciatingly painful.4 HOURS LATER
Coal awoke in a ditch, an old woman smelling of herbs and spices standing over him.
"Quite the fall you took young man" she said in a crackly voice. "Huh? Where am I? Who are you?" He said. He tried to get up but pain shot through his legs like fire. "Fire.. Fire.. Oh no.. No . No no" he said his voice starting to crack as he felt tears swell up in his eyes.
"Hush for now. Your legs took quite the beating from that fall, you see. Here take a sniff from this" she took a jar of glowing pink gel from the pouch she had slung around her waist. A sweet aroma filled the air and suddenly the pain was gone. "Wha-?" A feeling of absolute fatigue overwhelmed his thoughts as everything turned shades of grey and his vision slowly blacked out.End of Part One
