Coal awoke, the sweet aroma still drifting around in his mind almost as if it were all a dream. As he regained his conscious the realization of the truth began to creep into his mind, like thorny brambles curving around the tiny ball of sanity that he had held onto to keep himself present.
It seemed as if the room was only growing darker, the walls closing in, the absolute trauma setting in like a cloud of ash over a lonesome village.
His breathing quickened and vision blurred, the items in the room seemed to faze in and out of one and other.
A red hue appeared in the smoke, a brilliant light almost like that of the sun at first dawn. Its was his arm. A spiraling line traveling down the side of his arm.
"Ahhhh so your awake" the old woman started in her crackly voice. The sounds of footsteps in the hall way. "What's that li-" her question cut off by a squack of what seemed to be suprise. Coal looked up, tears streaming down his face. His eyes folded over with layers of confusion, terror, and horror. The next few moments they held the gaze until Coal finally spoke "whats happening to me?" His voice no quieter than a mouse, trembling with fear and hesitation. "It seems you have the gift" she replied "The gift?" Coal questioned the red on his arm slowly fading away, like a sunset on a quite beach, only to be admired but not spoken about.
"I will tell you but in time, first I must heal those legs" she said, pointing her old shaky finger at his legs, which were bound on a board and slathered in a green gel.
The pain in his legs were there but very faint, like a small light in the dark, almost smothered but still holding on just barely.
"Here" the old woman said handing Coal a bowl of freshly diced carrot and potato. He looked up at her, wonder in his eyes "Who are you?" He asked quietly. "Emerald" her bright green eyes shining brightly, seemingly singing a melody of mixed emotions. "We have much to discuss"End of Part 2
