When Park Chanyeol was young, he believed in Happily Ever Afters. Not necessarily the ones where the main protagonists get married and ride off to some kingdom far, far away and have 10 babies and die happily while their kids sing them into their last sleep. Just a nice, satisfactory ending to a tale. He believed that everyone deserved a happy ending and that everyone would get one. It was silly, but then again, he was only 5.
When he was 10 years old, his mother was diagnosed with brain cancer. He couldn't remember much from that time in his life. Most of the memories were jumbled up, like tossed laundry in a dryer, a mix of tears and heartache.
Luckily, his father had been there to comfort him, staying with him until he fell asleep each night and encouraging him to keep trying at school, because that's what Chanyeol's mother had wanted. At school, Chanyeol made friends, who didn't quite understand what he was going through, but liked him for who he was and Chanyeol was grateful for that.Life had given him lemons and he made lemonade. Having started his 2nd year of college, he couldn't imagine his life to be any better. He had nice friends, his father was supporting him in his decision to major in Architecture and he didn't really have any major life-changing problems, except for a constant shortage of money. And also he was single.
It seemed as if everyone had someone, except for him. All of his friends were in relationships. Suho had Lay. Xiumin had Chen. Jongin held an inextinguishable torch for Kyungsoo, a senior. Even his roommate, Sehun, who was literally the most annoying person, had been in a relationship. Being by himself was okay, but constantly being the third wheel made outings boring.
His friends had tried to set him up with someone before, and it wasn't that he didn't try. It was just that none of the people he went on dates with were right for him. Pretending to love someone could corrupt a relationship and he didn't want that to happen. He'd had enough heartbreaks.
"Chanyeol, what are you doing tonight?", Sehun burst in through the door, jerking Chanyeol out of his thoughts.
Chanyeol sighed and turned around in his desk chair.
"Sehunnie, you know I love you, but if you keep barging in like that, I'm actually going to ask for a new roommate." Chanyeol chided, "And to answer your question, homework."
"It's Friday, let's do something fun," Sehun whined.
"Let me guess. Dumpster diving?"
"No-"
Sehun was cut off as Kim Jongin bustled into the room, excitable as always.
"Hi, it's me! Your door wasn't locked so I let myself in."
"Sehun, what the hell?" Chanyeol fumed, "I swear, if I get killed or something one day because you forgot to-"
"Hey, Jongin." Sehun swiveled back to face Chanyeol. "Anyway, back to what I was saying; no, we're not going dumpster diving."
Chanyeol sighed inwardly. Even though Sehun and Jongin drove him up the wall, they were still arguably two of his closest friends.
"Are we going to drive around with you standing on top the car holding Vivi in that Lion King pose while Jongin sings a song you wrote yourself about how great Vivi is?"
"No....but.......actually, that's a pretty good idea".
"I'm sorry," Jongin cut in, "but how is it that whenever you two are together some dumb shit always happens? Whoever put you as roommates must have been drunk."
