Chapter One
I was slowly sipping my favorite latte from Java Jive when I got the email. It was about a missing woman. It’s always missing people. I hate doing missing people cases. I hate to see the disappointed faces of the family or friends of the victim when I can’t find them. I remember when it was my own sister. They told me she probably ditched town for a new life. I wouldn’t blame her if I were a prostitute. But the gut feeling inside me tells me she didn’t leave. I quickly realized what was going on. I need to help this person find their loved one. I simply replied; meet me at my office at 12 PM. I left the coffee shop soon after it sent since its 11:45. It takes about 10 minutes to get to my office. By the time I get there he should be getting in. In my 4 years on the job people like to come early. I quickly hailed a taxi. I would walk but it’s raining in Long Island.
“West Hempstead, please” I said to the slightly irritated cabbie.
The cab slightly started to move. It gurgled when it moved which worried me. I wasn’t going to say anything to make the cabbie pissed. I just got out my phone and read more emails, mostly spam or promotions for books. I turned away from my phone to look out the window. It was a beautiful rainy day in New York. All the skyscrapers and building all dark and shadowy. I live for days like this when I can cuddle up to a book and read. But not today, today I had a case.
Once I got to my office I noticed some strange man looking at me from the other side of the street. Out of curiosity I looked back. He started to walk towards me. Once he got closer I got a better look at him. He was around his mid 50’s. A chubby man with gray hair. You can see the worried lines on his face. He looked so worried and lost.
“Hel..lo, are you Miss, Jodi Walters,” He said. His voice soft and scared.
“Yes, are you the man that sent the email,” I replied.
“Ye..Yes, I’m Mark Wilson,”
“Mr. Wilson come inside my office and we can talk there,”
