"I told you before, Cameron. I can't go to dinner tonight with your family. Jane will have my head. I promised her we'll go shopping for semi today." I shut my locker and turned to the school's most valuable bachelor. He was leaned up against a locker with a pout on his face. I laughed and shook my head before pushing past him to get to the gym. I can't keep being late for classes. It's a bad rep for a freshman.
"Come on Elijah. What about after you're done shopping? My mom said she misses you. Plus dad's been wanting to show you the new car he just got." We made a left down the west wing and I saw my brother up ahead. He spotted Cameron and me instantly. A frown taking over his face. He hated that Cameron was in love with me. He didn't think it was right to be on and off with a Junior. Though not much could be said about him. He's been dating Sydney Pasto since last summer. He just didn't like that Cameron was my best friend. Cameron was a competition.
"No, Cam. I'm not going to dinner with them tonight. Tell them I'll come over tomorrow." He whined.
"El! I have a hockey game tomorrow. You can't miss that." I shrugged and stopped in front of the girls' locker room.
"Shouldn't you be in calculus? Look, I'll still be at your game, spaz. I'll go home with you. My parents have been out lately. I'll tell them I'm staying the night. Get to class, Cameron. Save a spot for me at lunch." He rolled his eyes and pressed a kiss to my cheek before walking past my brother who glared at him. I laughed. Cameron would beat Chris's ass in a heartbeat. Whether he was a senior or not.
I opened the locker door and was hit with the overpowering smell of perfume, I almost gagged. "Hey, Elijah!" I smiled and turned to a senior girl who I met over the summer at archery camp. She was pretty, with thick-rimmed glasses. I think she is on the cheer team. She dragged me to her bench and we both got ready in the school's ugly gym uniform. "I think we're playing flag football with the boys today. You ready?" I nodded my head.
We walked out to the football field and saw everyone getting lined up. I grimaced when I saw Sydney. Her brown eyes zoned in on me. I guess she was captain of one team. "Elijah is the other captain, Mr. Vince." I smiled. I heard a few groans and chuckles.
"Why would you pick the captain of our rugby team to be the team leader? Do you want to lose Sydney?" Walking to the front I stood beside her. My height slightly above hers. I looked at my classmates and began taking turns on picking. This went on for about three minutes before the game started.
"Caleb, why don't you be the quarterback? You have a wicked arm on you." He smiled and we began. Forty-five minutes of this went on before the teachers called the game. My team with the win. I smiled and winked at Sydney before rushing off to change. I actually hated gym class. Nothing productive ever got done. The girls filed into the room and began to change. "So what's going on with you and Cameron?" Katy asked me. I gave her a side glance and finished pulling on my maroon dress. What did she mean?
"Huh?"
"I saw him kiss you." I laughed a little and put my short jean jacket over top.
"Cameron and I are best friends. We use to bathe together in elementary school. He kind of befriended me in preschool by dropping a frog in my cereal. He's always kissed me on the cheek." She looked at me with a smile.
"So you are the girl we couldn't get out of him. We knew you two were best friends. I just meant the kiss. Cameron has been pawning after you since his freshman year, probably even before. I'm glad to see him with you. Seriously. You had the girls who fawned after him, but he was always with me, James, and Keyten. Keyten is my boyfriend." I nodded at her and she told me about the dumb things their group did. I knew she looked familiar.
