Draco Malfoy did not like the idea of going back to Hogwarts, where he knew that he'd see Hermione on a daily basis. It wasn't that he didn't want too see her, it was the fact he was desperate too. Hermione Granger was nothing short of perfection in his eyes, the first thought he had in the morning and the last thought he had before sleep. Do you know the one black spot in his new found heaven? The bane of his existense? Ron fucking Weasley. It also happened that from across the platform, Weasley was glaring at him.
How was it that the disaster that was Weasel, could be so near perfection? How was it that he could hold her? It was bloody unfair in Draco Malfoy's eyes.
The scarlet red train pulled in to the platform, Draco picked up his trunk and made his way to the Slytherin carriages. Draco slunk his way down the aisles, until he eventually found the carriage with his friends. Draco opened the door smoothly, and walked into the carriage and sat down next to Theodore Nott.
"Draco, mate, how was your summer?" Theo asked, promptly slapping Draco on the back. The action caused Draco to laugh, Merlin, he'd missed his mates.
"Eh, it was uneventful," he replied, lying through his fucking teeth. Draco's summer was extremely eventful, but was not something he wanted to share.
"Come off it, Draco. Something interesting must've happened. I'll tell you, right, I was in Italy absolutely plowing this girl and she fucking pulls out an engagement ring in the middle of us shagging. So I'm freaking out, obviously, and she starts to propose so what do I do? I get up, tell her no I'm not gonna marry you and walk out. Then the fucking next day, her dad comes to my house in Italy and demands I marry his daughter so I say no and tell him to go suck himself and, he offers me a job at his farm to marry his daughter! It was fucking mental, mate, so I turned the pair of them into chickens an' sent them packing." Blaise told whilst the other two boys burst into fits of laughter. Zabini always managed to do something stupid.
"I mean I'd love to stay and listen to you be an idiot some more Blaise," Draco laughed. "I'm three minutes late to a prefects meeting though, so bye don't miss me too much." Draco left the carriage and gave an over dramatic wave.
-
Draco had made a slight miscalculation, he wasn't three minutes late for the prefects meeting, but three minutes early. Which in turn meant, he was stood outside the prefect carriage by himself looking like an idiot. It wasn't until two minutes later the next person arrived, the pompous Ernie McMillan. Eventually, most, if not all, the prefects arrived and McGonagall let them inside the carriage.
Draco sat near the back of the carriage, putting his feet up to have a slight relax. He then looked up, and looked around at all the prefects. For Hufflepuff there was Ernie McMillan and Hannah Abbott, Ravenclaw had Padma Patil and Terry Boot and Gryffindor was bloody Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The other Slytherin prefect, who was late, was Pansy Parkinson much to Draco's dismay.
"Right, as prefects you have a few duties around school." McGonagall started, looking around the room as if she didn't already know who would be there. "As prefects you are expected to show the first years around your house tower and be available to answer their questions when needed. You will not be able to dock points or administer detentions. You may, and are expected too, report any misbehaving to a member of staff, regardless of the trouble causers house." She said the last sentence whilst particularly looking at Draco.
"The password to all the prefect bathrooms is 'patentibus', and it is also the password to the prefect lounge on the third floor. This is where all prefect meetings will be held, and they will be held every two weeks. The head boy and girl from the year above will lead the meetings. A pair of you will be expected too patrol the grounds every night and you can work out the schedule between yourselves." With that, McGonagall walked out and everyone began chattering.
"Right then, let's get this patrol schedule sorted." Cho Chang spoke cheerfully, the apparent new headgirl. "McGonagall wants to promote house unity, so you're patrol parter is going to be from an opposing house. Here are the pairs: Ernie McMillian and Terry Boot, Pansy Parkinson and Hermione Granger, Padma Patil and Hannah Abbott and lastly Draco Malfoy and Ronald Weasley."
Draco Malfoy was fuming, there was no way in hell he was patrolling with that oaf. No chance, whatsoever. "Yeah Chang, I'm not patrolling with the Weasel." He drawled aggressively, his voice sounding like it could cut something.
"Well, Malfoy that's what's been put down," she replied, trying her hardest to keep the fake sunny disposition.
"We hate eachother, one of us will be dead within the hour. Plus, you never know if he'll confundus me and take my money, Merlin knows he needs it." Draco laughed.
"You slimy git!" Ron shouted, and lunged over the table to get him. He never reached Draco though, Hermione pulled him back and whispered something too him. Weasley was grumbling something inaudible to Draco's ears, looking very miserable. At least the tosser didn't touch me, he thought.
"Fine, Malfoy. You can patrol with Granger, Weasley you patrol with Parkinson. And just to be clear, there will be no more changes." Chang shouted, the smiley exterior gone. "You can all leave now." She said, and they all did as they were told.
Draco couldn't have been happier, now he had two hours at night alone in the castle with Granger. Ah, those would keep him going for a good while. He walked out of the prefects carriage quickly, pushing past people so he could spend the last hour of the train ride with his friends. When, he accidentally brushed past Hermione and lightly touched her back.
They both felt shivers down their spines, and felt almost hungry, but for lord knows what. Hermione's body was craving something her mind didn't know, and she instantly felt hot and flustered. And, it bloody happened when she was touched by Draco Malfoy, again. He had some strange effect on her, and regardless of how amazing it felt, she wanted to get to the bottom of it.
