Climbing up the stairs of the bus, Maddie thought to herself 'You can be strong Maddie'. And she saw him there. And she was strong. Maybe Crispin, the boy she loved with all of her heart, had replaced her with something that suited him more but that didn't matter. After all, the perfect girl doesn't go with guys like him.
*Flashback*
"Maddie, seriously what's wrong?" Crispin asked with concern
"Who would you rather hang out with? Me or April?" Maddie said with tears in her eyes
"That's ridiculous, I love you," Crispin said with hesitation
"Look me in the eye and say you love me."
But Crispin didn't. He stood there, looking at the ground.
"Then it's settled. You can be with April. I guess we were never meant for each other. I hope you two have fun."  Her voice cracked at the end
"Maddie wait," Crispin called after her. But she didn't turn around.

They made eye contact. He was sitting alone, without that boyfriend-stealing freak. He smiled at Maddie, but she stared right through him and sat down.

They got of the bus
"Hey Mad,"
"Don't call me mad anymore, I'm sure you have lots of nicknames for her" she replied icily
"Me and April broke up."
Maddie took a sharp breath "I'm sorry to hear that." She began walking.
"I'm sorry, Maddie. For everything,"
She turned around "Sorry? You're sorry? I loved you, Crispin. And you couldn't even look me in the eye and say that. You were my everything, and then April came along and took you from me. If it wasn't for her, we wouldn't be in this situation. You would still have your arm around me. Well guess what, you're going to have to find someone else to fill in the gap because I'm done with this situation."
"Maddie,"
"Crispin." Her eyes welled up with tears "Look me in the eye and say you love me."
"I love you, Maddie Carlson."
"If you'd said that to me a year ago, maybe I'd say I love you too."
