drip, drop. drip, drop.
Asuka absolutely hated the rain.
it was calm at first, the small, crystallized droplets dripping slowly from the clouds and onto blankets of tyedye leaves; but in a matter of minutes the delicate drops of water falling down to earth had turned to cold bullets of liquid, ready to shoot down any unlucky person (-or thing-) strolling along the street at this time of day.
unfortunately, Asuka was the main target.
struggling to keep from getting soaked, Asuka pulled the thick, pink flap of her poncho over her head in frustration.
"of course..." she muttered flatly, still running across the puddle-infested streets.
"it had to rain today."
it wasnt much of a surprise anyway. it had been raining alot for some reason, even though summer air was supposed to be drowning the city in a wave of popsicles and warmth.
Asuka still ran.
her house was very far away, and one more step of her fragile legs would surely mean one step closer to exaustion, but she kept going all the while.
come on.... she thought, determied puffs of air escaping her lips. i'm almost there...just one more- SMACK! with a panicked sqeak, Asuka tripped over her own shoelace and fell onto the rain-streaked pavement. All her belongings tumbled from her pockets, including her glasses, and sprayed across the road in a colorful rainbow. she lay helplessly, feeling the cold of the rain bathe her olive skin, almost mocking her. as the liquid began to soak into her hair, she staggered upwards, groping for her glasses. she finally felt the cold glass of a lense, and placed the round glasses on her eyes, adjusting them to suit her vision. the right lense was noticeably broken. as Asuka began collecting her wet pens and key-chains off of the street, she turned to a warm light glowing not too far away.
a café.
right in front of her stood a beautiful coffee shop, with brown bricks and dark wood walls, polished from rain and cold air.
inside there were soft lights hanging from a green wallpaper ceiling.
cabinets of spices and cups were lining the walls of the café, and coffee machines were scattered everywhere across oak counters.
there were wood stools, and long dark tables, but most of all-
there were people.
lots of people.
people chatting, people doing homework on laptops, people ordering lattes and spiced seasonal drinks, and people who where just gazing at the rain outside, brain clogged with music from long black, headphones.
it was simply just a marvelous, comforting sight.
still keeping her eyes locked on the cafe, Asuka slowly rose to her feet. she ignored the remains of her scattered items on the sidewalk, and carefully stepped towards the shop. she placed her palms on the glass pane, warmth flooding through the skin of her fingers and blazing into her rosy cheeks.
staring into that cafe,-everything just seemed to be at peace. it was as if time had stopped, and the only thing that had kept on living was that tiny place she was peering into.
with a small hesitant breath, Asuka grabbed the metal handle to a glass door, and opened it. emmediatley the comforting murmur of people filled her ears. heat pulsed though her body and warmed her skin as the lights from the cafe shone down on her. she quietly closed the door and stepped inside. smells of soft vanilla and sharp spices danced around her as she sat down at one of the long tables in the corner. this one, however, was almost empty, despite the large number people in the cafe. Asuka plopped her but down on one of the wood stools and shifted happily. comfy..
reaching into her pocket, Asuka pulled out her phone. its screen was decorated with small streams of water gliding down the glass, and the case was dripping with liquid. honestly, Asuka didnt care the slightest bit.
she dialed her passcode (3614997) and began lazily scrolling through the collection of pictures she had stored in her little 'internet land'.
she pulled small sketchbook from an almost-hidden pocket in her poncho as well, and began to doodle as she searched for something to draw.
busily sliding her finger to reveal photos to doodle, her tongue sticking out in determination, Asuka hadnt noticed a stranger sit a couple stools down from her.
it was a girl. she about 5'1, same height as Asuka, and very skinny. Thick curls of long sunshine-yellow hair tumbled down her shoulders, and her chocolate eyes seemed to be transfixed on the patio sitting in for the of her. a blue light blazed her flawless milky skin as she scrolled through the network, searching for something interesting. both doing the same exact thing. yet they were completely different. Asuka still had not noticed the girl next to her. she set her phone down on the table with a soft tink, and stretched her skinny arms in the air, letting a short yawn escape her mouth. she glanced to her left, and stopped abruptly.
there she was.
and she was beautiful. the most beautiful thing Asuka had ever seen in her entire, boring life.
stunning.
marvelous.
a furious, scarlet blush crawled its way across Asukas cheeks as she gazed at the girl with pure amazement.
perplexed.
hypnotised.
then she turned back to her sketchbook. she looked at it for a split second, admiring the soft white of the wafer-thin strips, and quietly tore a corner from one of the pages. she scraped her pencil against the soft paper. she had no idea what she was doing. no idea in her mind.
finally, after a fair amount of erasing and tapping her pencil against her chin, she quickly scribbled down a note on the white strip and began sliding it towards the end of the table to the girl, all the while covering her blushing face with one hand.
Asuka stopped sliding the paper towards the girl and paused.
am i really going to do this? she wondered. can i do this?
she hesitated for a moment longer,
but with an indignant sigh, Asuka pressed the paper forward. she emmediatley pulled her hand back and covered her face with her hands, embarrassed. she peeked through a hole in her fingers.
she still hasnt noticed!
the girl was still staring at the laptop infront of her, paying no mind to the slip of paper, which she would soon read. slowly, her hand brushed across the table as she sighed, and it briefly fell on the slip of paper. she stared at her laptop for less than a second and emmediatley turned her dark brown gaze to the note. Asuka watched as the girl slowly picked up the note and stared, her heart exploding with fear and excitement as she saw her beginning to read it.
Azuka could see the girl silently say what it said, and with each word
the girl mouthed, her expression grew from brow-crinkled confusion to wide-eyed surprise. Azuka could feel her heart almost explode out of her chest as the girls soft, sweet voice repeated the sentence one last time: 'weve never met, but can we have a coffee or something?'.
She stared at the words, transfixed at how strait-forward it was, and dragged her gaze to meet Azuka. Azuka was looking away, sweating and blushing with uncertainty, pretending not to notice the girls beautiful eyes land on hers.
but she noticed, all right.
and, the weirdest thing about it was, a little part of her liked it.
her heart was beating so fast she was afraid it would pop out of her flat chest and fall onto the floor, pumping loudly in a mess of sweet blood and pink flesh. but it didnt.
the girl kept staring, and Asuka couldn't help but notice a faint pink blush on the girls cheeks as well. for a minute, the only sound in the world was the loud beating of their hearts, pumping one after another.
then she gave a sharp breath.
Asuka sucked up all the courage she could muster. then she turned to finally meet the girls gaze.
staring into her eyes, she muttered: "so... how 'bout it?"
emmediatley Asuka regretted saying these words as soon as they left her mouth. she was embarrassed on how they sounded., shaky and quiet, not at all bold as she wanted them to be.
turning away for a split second, she began to blush furiously again and started screaming internaly.
WHY DID I DO THAT?! SHES GONNA THINK IM A TOTAL IDIOT!!
she felt a cold sweat running down her face, but stopped in confusion when she heard a soft giggle from next to her.
the girl. she was giggling. Asuka slowly darted her eyes back to the girl. Her cheeks were rosy pink, filled with color, and her blonde hair was bouncing from her shoulders.
Asuka stared at her in a mix of anxiety and confusion.
is she making fun of me?
but no. she wasnt making fun of her. rather the opposite, in fact. she thought Asuka was funny. Asuka patiently waited for the girl to calm down. secretly though, she just wanted to see this beautiful girl laugh the whole time.
after a couple of seconds, the girls blonde hair stopped bouncing and her eyes opened once more. her mouth closed, shutting off that beautiful sound of laughter. than she gave one of those sighs when your cracking up and finally stop.
As their eyes locked again, it was her who spoke this time.
"sure." the words struck Azuka in the heart like a bow-n-arrow. they were confident. bold. just like Azuka had wanted to sound when she had spoke.
without hesitation, the girl jumped to her feet and started towards the ordering counter. her sunshine yellow hair... her milky pink dress... she was perfect. she turned and looked strait at Asuka.
"well, what are you waiting for?"
