Silent Ears

Chapter three

Me: YOUKNOWTHEINTROLETSSTART!!!

With a heaving sigh, and lunch over, I stand up, stretch my arms and begin to head to class. It was science, or more specifically, chemistry. It was an ok lesson, the teacher was friendly and the other students were tolerable...but that could just be because we're setting things on fire...

I make my way around the building, avoiding eye contact with everyone just to avoid their gazes. The gazes that I fear. I don't usually care about what people think of me, but something was different today...maybe it was because of the lack of contact with my friend. I look at the floor and laugh inside as someone trips over and fall flat on their face. The school may be full of stupid people, but they'll never fail to amuse me, despite their ability to accept and understand.

I find my seat, in the back corner of the class, next to the window. I get my pen, ruler, pencil out and look at the board at the front of the class. I feel someone tap my shoulder and look to the person next to me.
"Do you have a pen I can borrow?" The boy next to me asks. His name was Romeo (me: yes, he's older, shut up). He didn't say anything about my deafness, then again he never really spoke, though he always forgot a pen. I nod and hand him my spare one. He smiles a little in thanks and looks at the board.

I write down the title of the lesson and look to where Romeo was sitting, only to find he's standing up, glaring at his seat's new occupant, Natsu Dragneel. I show no emotion towards Natsu as he grins childishly.
"Yo!" His lips move. "Wanna go out?" Are girls seriously attracted to this? I smile and nod my head, politely declining. Where are my words? "You mute or something?"
"No, I just don't like talking to idiots." I say. Romeo covers his mouth with his hand, suppressing a laugh, while Natsu stares at me intensely. A wave of confidence overtakes me as I say those words.
"You're talking to me now, aren't ya?" He says.
"I said 'I don't like' not 'I don't'." I say.
"I'm not stupid!" He says, almost in a panic.
"I never said you were, I called you an idiot." I say, crossing my arms. Either the teacher told us to shut up or Natsu gave up, because he reluctantly turned around, but not getting up from Romeo's seat. Romeo looks at me with some kind of admiration in his eyes before leaving to find Natsu's seat. I catch a few eyes glancing at me and feel any rush of confidence I had drain away from me.

The lesson, after dragging on for what seemed like forever, finally ended and everyone rushed to leave. Students crowded the hallways so I held back until it was clearer. I sling my bag on and stand in front of the door, looking out the window to check the number of people outside. A couple of groups but it's manageable. I open the door and head into the hallway. Sensing some eyes upon me, I keep my head low and push my earphones, I know it's useless, but if people saw that I had earphones in, they were less likely to bother me, and besides, I can dream.

I hurriedly make my down the stairs and out the double doors that lead to the back of the school. Feeling the wind blow my hair out of my face, I almost run to the front of the school and make my way to the gates, passing the music building and ending up in front of the bike shed. I look to the car park and see someone standing there with who I think is their parent. Upon closer inspection I find it's Natsu and his dad. I don't know what they're saying but judging by his dad's expression, he seems angry. Natsu's dad turns around and climbs into his black car. Natsu's shoulders slump and his head drops. He turns around and I pretend I didn't see anything then he climbs into the car too. That was odd...

I get home and head to my room. I check my homework on an app and groan inwardly when there's an audio file. So, refusing to attempt it, I work on my writing once more, beginning a new chapter.

'Everything we do is to escape something, wether that be reality, people or life in general, we all do it'

Me: Ta Da!
Mira: woooo!
Lucy: what?
Natsu: she said, 'woooo!'
Lucy: what?
Natsu: woooo!
Lucy: what?
Natsu: WOOOO!!!!!!
Mira and me: *smirking*
Natsu: what's so funny!?
Mira: nothing!
Me: everyone say bye!
Everyone: byieeee!
