**!!MAJOR CHANGES!!**

*Note these customs and origins are not from the show they are my ideas.

Origin of the ancient Faunus tribes:

Thousands of years before Faunus became common in human society there were tribes ruled by individuals called Altalune. The Altalune always had silver eyes and the ability to take on the true form of their animal traits. Their senses and size as well as their sheer strength as a human or creature are enhanced dramatically after their first shift takes place. In order to shift, an Altalune has to be in a certain state of mind and at a certain age. Ceremonies were held to honor the future leaders of their tribes when they came of age. Another fact about the shift is that it can also be set off early if the previous leader died unexpectedly.

The most powerful of the leaders was a wolf by the name of Lesedi from the Waridi clan. He was also called 'Jua kufufuka' meaning; The sun rose. Lesedi was dubbed the king who presided over Remnant's main tribes. The Altalune leaders that came after him in status were a lion named Amir,  a leopard named Aherin, a fox named Kapele, and a deer named Surekli.

Lesedi only came to be king because of a trait he and his descendants solely possess it was named, Udhibiti Kamili, or Total control. This ability gave him the means to make an absolute command others couldn't refuse. He only ever used this ability if there was no other solution. Along with Udhibiti Kamili, he gained supernatural strength far surpassing the others of his class, sadly an outside force began hunting the superiors to extinction. Lesedi had been ambushed in his sleep and became the first of many to die by their hands. Fortunately, his son Motsumi managed to escape continuing his bloodline. Motsumi's semblance helped them fade into hiding with others none the wiser of their existence.

In order to keep a piece of his father alive he passed the name, Lesedi, to his children. Motsumi's descendants kept records of everything always taking great care of them for centuries to come. A prophecy pertaining to Lesedi's return had been documented in these very archives stating the irrevocable rebirth of him as a spirit of great wisdom and strength bound to an individual carrying his blood.

Dragon Faunus (Old gods first creation):

The rarest, most powerful race of Faunus are the dragons. They were said to be the old god's first creation, and in turn, people believed that they had the absolute favor of these omnipotent beings and were given supernatural abilities.

According to ancient depictions discovered in the temples of the old world, dragons seemed to be designed after the old god's true forms. Of course, they were made to be significantly weaker than their creators, only one or two dragons have been recorded to have ever existed every few millennia.

Dragons can be born into any family of reptilian Faunus no matter what sub-species the parents are. Due to their rareness, if a dragon faunus is ever discovered to exist they are hunted down by all manner of people both unsavory and not.

Dragons can shift both partially and fully however only when they come of a certain age. It may take a while for one to gain full control over their change.

Mates:

Altalunes aren't the only species to have a mate or destined one, but they do have a better sense of who it is than a normal Faunus or even a human would.

Customs: (They vary between families, tribes, and clans)

*Courtship practices; early stages - When one was romantically interested in someone they would tell the other that they intended to court them while presenting a gift or gifts, if the person of their affection doesn't accept the gifts then the initiator is expected to drop their attempt.

*Courtship practices; Marriage - The marriage custom was held in high regard in ancient times and the way one asked for a person's hand in marriage was to present a ring they've carved or crafted out of wood, stone, or metal to their intended. The designs were unique to every couple.

After their marriage ceremony, the one who proposed will go on a hunt to bring back a claw, beak, feather, fang, etc. From either a Grimm or an animal they killed to prove their strength and ability to protect their family.

*Along with these customs there are harvest feasts, territory marking, family hunts, and many others. Most of these customs were lost in time and are practiced very rarely.

Traditions:

*Babies - When a baby is born the parents usually gift their baby with a blanket they've made especially for them with their family emblem embroidered onto it. As the child gets older the parents will either alter the blanket, make it into something else or make a completely different item separate from the blanket.

*Birthdays: Every year after a child's tenth birthday a family will hold a feast or a large-scale hunt to celebrate. This was especially used in the past because of the high mortality rate of infants to young teens.

Deaths: The death of a tribe's men or a pack mate vary depending on the tribe the deceased are part of and the title they held. The main universal mourning action is the bowing of heads and the utterance of a certain phrase depending on what animal they and their tribe resemble. For example, if a bear Faunus warrior dies the words said are;

"May your soul join the great Ursai above as our exalted protector."

Whereas if a Faunus without a title passes, the words said are;

"May your soul rest with our ancestors under the protection of our fallen warriors whose roars shake the heavens."

Everyone then answers with;

"Aye may your souls roam with the ancients of times passed."

Another example would be that if a deer Faunus dies with the title of healer or shaman the words said would be;

"May your kind soul ascend to the heavens where you may ease the suffering of the lost."

This is followed with;

"Oh, great ones accept this kind doe/stag into the ranks of our wise healers."

On the other hand, if a deer without a title dies the words are;

"May your souls be eased by the hands of our past healers and may you graze among the plains of our ancestors."

They are answered with;

"Aye may you rest peacefully under the healing light."

As you can see it's completely different. It all depends on the tribe's morals and beliefs.
