*First day of school*
*Bell Rings*
"Come on Ingrid, you don't want to be late for class." Mac teases me as she closes my locker. Mac, Kaylie and I have been the trio since diapers. I didn't think we'd still be running around together, going into our junior year. My first class was English 3 Honors with Mr.Blakeson, I had him last year, and I swear I was asleep for all of his lessons. He is a very monotone teacher. I walk into the classroom, and there is clearly a seating chart in place as all of the cliques are split apart. I walk up to the desk in the front and look at the sheet. Great, 3rd table from the front. My table mates are Jason, Max, and Bruno. Three football players. It's more or less like Mr.Blakeson wants me to fail. I go and sit in my seat. Class begins and my three tablemates are nowhere to be found. I take "The House on Mango Street" out of my backpack and start to read because clearly, I'm not interested in going over what's in the syllabus. I start reading... The door opens and three boys walk in.
"You three are at a table with Ingrid. Ingrid, wave so these boys know where to sit." Mr. B says. I look up from my book and wave. The boys make their way to my table.
"Hey cutie, I'm Jason, that's Max and Bruno." The tall brunette says.
"I know," I say. They sit down. I don't think any of them are that cute, maybe Bruno.
"Whatchu reading nerd?" Bruno asks stealing my book from my hands.
"The House on Mango Street," I say taking my book back from him and our hand's touch. Neither of us move away, however. I look up at him. He lets go. That was awkward.
"Ayyo Jason, what class you got next?" Max asks across the table.
"I have some basic cooking class." He says not sounding at all excited.
"Awe cool man, I have Trig. Bruno, what about you?" Max asks looking at Bruno, who is staring off into space.
"Oh.. Umm, I have History with Ms.James... What about you cutie?" Bruno says looking down at me.
"The names Ingrid, and I also have history," I say. I was hoping not to have any more classes with Bruno. The bell rings for the next class. The three boys stand up and walk out of class. I head over to Mac's locker as that's where we planned to meet after every class to gossip. I waited for 6ish minutes and they never came so I walked to my History class. Yet again another seating chart. I walked up to the teacher's desk to see where I was sitting. I was sitting in the desk in the direct middle of the classroom. Bruno on one side of me and Astrid on the other. I grew up with Astrid as a neighbor but then she and her family moved due to unknown reasons. I'd be nice to reconnect with her. I go to my seat and get out my phone. I unlock it and message Mac and Kaylie in our group chat.
Ingrid: Hey guys, where were you after first block...?
Mac: Oh yeah, we forgot.
Kylie: Yeah, we forgot.
Ingrid: Are we going to meet for lunch? I have my car.
Mac: No, probably not.
Kylie: Yeah, we might have other plans.
Ingrid: Whatever losers. TTYL
I put my phone away and Bruno walks in.
"Texting about me, I see," he says sitting down at the desk next to me.
"No way! How did you know?" I say dramatically
"Ha, what's your plan for lunch Ingrid?" He says with a smirk.
"Well, now I don't have one. But I have a car. Would you want to go out to lunch with me?" I ask
"Of course. I'll pay." He says. He gets out his phone and is clearly messaging someone, probably his boys, Jason and Max.
*Class passes by*
"Where do you want to go to lunch?" I say as we walk to my car.
"Anywhere. I'm not picky." He says. We get to my car and he starts smiling like he's hiding his laughter.
"Whats funny?" I said unlocking my car.
"I didn't realize you were a soccer mom." He says.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I say as we hop into my car.
"You drive a white Honda Odessy." He says "That is the definition of a soccer mom van."
"Oh... How's Wendys for lunch?" I say trying to change subjects.
"Sounds good, like I said, I'm not picky." He says.
As we pull out of the parking lot we drive past Mac and Kylie. They stare as we pass.
*DRIVING*
We pull into Wendy's drive-through line and I pull out my phone.
Mac: Ingrid, who's the boy?
Ingrid: Bruno, he's in my class.
Kylie: But isn't he a football player?
Ingrid: Yeah, and?
Mac: You can't talk to him.
Ingrid: Why?
Mac: Because we're not supposed to, don't you remember the promise we made freshman year?
Ingrid: except you dated 3 different football players last year. Also, Bruno's just a friend.
"What's that about?" Bruno says leaning over
"You," I say with a straight face.
"Your friends don't like me do they?" He asks.
"It doesn't matter because I don't like them," I say.
