Asia rolled her eyes but couldn't hide the small smile tugging at her lips. "Love you too, Niya. Try not to let those idiots get to you today."

I watched her hop out of the car and head towards the school entrance, her backpack bouncing with each step. Taking a deep breath, I braced myself for another day of surviving senior year.

As I parked and walked towards the building, I could already hear the chatter of the popular kids echoing through the halls. Their voices were like nails on a chalkboard to me, always talking about parties, hookups, and drama that seemed so trivial.

I pushed through the crowded hallway, keeping my head down and avoiding eye contact. My goal was simple: get through the day with minimal interaction and maximum efficiency.

First period was English, and as I slid into my seat, I noticed a new face at the front of the class. A substitute teacher, great. Just what we needed—another person who didn't know how to handle this chaotic class.

"Alright, class," she began, her voice steady and calm. "I'm Ms. Turner, and I'll be your substitute for today. Let's try to make this a productive session."

I tuned out most of what she said, focusing instead on doodling in my notebook. But then she said something that caught my attention.

"I want each of you to write about a moment that changed your perspective on life."

I sighed inwardly. Another introspective assignment that would likely be ignored by half the class. But as I started writing, I found myself pouring out more than I expected.

Maybe today wouldn't be so shitty after all.
