“If you don't receive love from the ones who are meant to love you, you will never stop looking for it.” -Robert Goolrick, The End of the World as We Know It: Scenes from a Life

"What...just happened?", I asked, astounded that even the tone of my voice changed. My voice, naturally, has always sounded despicable and menacing. This time, it sounded meek and gentle.

The harsh light faded away into the night as the Seraphim stepped forward to carry me in his thick, bulging arms. "You are now purged of all the darkness that has invaded you"

It was amazing when I stood up and realized all the wounds on my body had healed. The chains that bound my hands were gone and my tongue tasted sweet ambrosia. I glanced up at my Redeemer, who was beating his wings at my face. "Who are you? What is your name", I asked, eager to know the answer.

He just smiled. "You wouldn't want to know. I was forbidden to show myself like this to you"

"Come on! Spit it out!", I laughed as I gazed into his almond eyes.

"Well, alright. But this meeting will only be between us. I am your Guardian Angel, the Seraphim who watches over you as you sleep or go about your daily routines. Your life story has pained me so much that I couldn't help but interfere. Master must be fuming mad at me but I'm glad I was able to set things right"

"Sir, there are no words to express my gratitude to you. I will forever be indebted to your service", I smiled. "Since you don't have a name, I'd like to give you one. Perhaps Rafael would be nice?"

He grinned. I felt my cheeks turning tomato red. I looked away as I felt his presence come closer to me. "Raf-a-el. That's a nice name. So Eryn, I may not see you for a very long time"

"When will you be back?", I asked. I couldn't let that gorgeous hunk of a guy leave.

He gazed at the darkness that loomed ahead of me. "When you are at the verge of life and death, you'll see me. In other times, you just have to believe, I guess. I'll always be there, anyway, watching oveer you"

My face lit up like a bunch of Christmas lights. "Rafael, you're amazing. Please don't leave just yet. I want to welcome you into my humble apartment where I draft manuscripts and poems. There's so much mystery in you that I want to uncover"

His wings started beating against my face again and I found myself levitating in mid-air. He held both of my hadns and shot like a rocket ship across the night sky. I was shouting with happiness as we did a few somersaults in the chilly fog. the air howled against my ears as we sat on a silver cloud. The moon was in front of us, shining its brightest.
