*Keatyn's POV*
After breakfast the house was a mess, but Max agreed to clean it up while I ran some errands. I was just reaching out for a box of Lucky Charms, Max and I love them don't judge, when a hand pulls back my arm. "Excuse me but do you need-" I stop talking when I realize who it is. "Princess, I wanted to-" I slap his face and yell, "Don't you ever fucking call me that again and don't touch me!" I grab my cereal and walk away when I hear him say, "Those girls are right you are a bitch and a slut Keatyn." I spin on my heel and march up to him practically whispering these words quite creepily. "You and those skanks have no fucking clue what I've been through in my life. I wasn't always this perfect you know. I was just an ordinary guys' girl. I've had events had experiences in these last few years that some people wouldn't experience in a lifetime!" I didn't realize I was crying until I felt a tear fall from my chin. "Why can't you tell me? If you would just tell me, we'd still be together." I begin laughing once I hear the last part. "I thought you were different Duncan, I really did." And with that I am gone.

I had a lot of steam built up so I decided to run at the park, but like always I ended up at the animal shelter. The second I stepped in I spotted the most gorgeous pup I've ever seen. "Aren't you a sweetie pie?" I cooed to this small puppy with white fur, gorgeous blue eyes and a few brown specs, that padded up to me. Giving her a kiss on the nose I lift her up and walk to the counter. "Hi, Kelly.'' The peppy blonde whips around. "Keatyn! I haven't seen you here in a while. What can I do for you?" I smile and hold up the cutie. "I wanted some information on this sweetheart." With that the fur ball licks my nose. "Well, her name's Pearl and she is a white Boxer pup, so she'll get pretty big. The bad thing is that she's deaf so there will be many doctor bills and visits in the future." My heart melts at those words and I pull out my card. "Where do I sign?"

I grab my bags of shoes and foods while walking to the door with a new friend at my side. "Honey, I'm home!" I yell through the threshold. "It is not fair, I work on the house all day while you relax and shop!" Max shouts in a girly voice. "Shut up and take my bags to the room." With that he's walking to the room but a small puppy jumps out of my grasp and onto his lap. "Keatyyyyn!" He stretches my name as I walk out of the room. "What do you want?" I hear a small thud and run into the room. "What the hell is wrong with you?!" I screech while picking up my new baby off of the floor. "It's not my fault! She just fell out of my lap!" I roll my eyes and explain her situation and why she is special. "Hey Keats, when's our next game?" I check my phone and say Friday. "Since you clearly aren't leaving anytime soon, I'm going surfing." He immediately heads out the door yelling "Give me five minutes!" I laughed and went to get changed.

Several moments later, I'm walking out to my 'portion' of the beach. By this I mean it is more of a local hangout and just about everyone knows it's my spot. But they don't know that it used to be my escape.
*FLASHBACK*
It's one of those miraculous days that my father isn't home and I am gathering my sand pail while trotting along the hall in my swimsuit. "Keatyn! Are you ready?" I smile when my feet hit the bottom of my stairs and give the go ahead. My small hand is soon swallowed by my mother's while we head out the door. Sprinting onto the sand I hear my name shouted, "Hey, Keatyn!" I turn around to see my best friend. "Maxie! What are you doing here?" He holds up his board and says, "I came to surf! Do you want to try?" I look at my mother for approval, before running out to sea.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
"You're doing great Keatyn!" I hear my mom and my companion cheering me on as I stand to catch my first wave. I can smell the salt in the air as my hair whips behind my with the breeze. The ocean subtly spurts water in my face before I fall off the board. Max rushes by my side, being the great friend he is. "Are you okay?" He questions. "That was amazing!" I shout enthusiastically. It was amazing. I knew I had found my escape. Escape from my father, from everything. Little did I know that later in life I'd need more escapes than one.
*END OF FLASHBACK*
That was the activity that had saved my sanity a few years later. Once again I had been saved by Max.
