I sat there for what seemed like hours. I sat there and thought about daddy and him coming home and about what he said to me before he left. “Help mama with Aaron and Nevaeh” He had said. “Alright daddy” I promised.  “I love you.” He said and kissed my cheek. “I love you too” I said…

Then he was gone…

I looked out over the hills. I can’t wait till he’s home. I cant wait till I can hug him again.  I know he’s going to change. Like mama said war changes people, but at least ill have my daddy back. I smiled a little at the thought. I sat there for a while longer.

After that I went in for lunch. I must not have been sitting there for a long time cause mama just came out of Nevaeh’s room when I walked in the kitchen. I looked over at the clock. 3:45. She must have had a hard time getting her to sleep. “Everything okay?”  I asked. “Yeah I think Neveah’s getting sick. She’s coughing.” Mama replied. “Oh” I said “Are you ready for lunch?” Mama asked me. “yeah” I said and went into the living room. I sat on the couch and turned on the Television. I began flipping through the channels until I settled on a movie called ‘Where the wolves are’.

Pretty soon mama came in with a sandwich and a small bag on potato chips. She sat it on the coffee table in front of me and sat in the arm chair next to me. I picked up the sandwich and started eating.  Mama sat there watching the movie. I had a feeling she watched it before because of the way she would look away when the Indians would come into the English settlers camps.

After I was done I pretended I was watching the movie so mama wouldn’t worry about why I was being so quiet.  Daddy is half way across the world, Dodging bullets and killing Russians. I hope the comes home safe, and I hope he makes it out alive…
