WITH A SMILE as bright as the stars above, I watched the couple before me intently as they shared a look that filled me with absolute joy.
It was a look of love.
Ah, love! The very thought of it made my lips curl up into a smile as I admired the idea of love.
Averting my attention back to the couple, I felt a surge of pride sweep throughout my whole body.
The blond boy held the redheads hands and without any words exchanged, the two of them sat before each other with only their eyes to portray everything they wanted to say to each other.
I love you.
My God, those three words were the most powerful words to ever have been exchanged.
Love could conquer everything. That was a firm belief of mines.
In my eyes, love was perfect. There were no flaws when it came to love and there certainly wasn't any imperfections.
It was beautiful and what was even more beautiful about it was that out there, somewhere, everyone has that special someone who they'd eventually spend the rest of their lives with and I couldn't think of anything more perfect than that.
Love was perfect.
My work here was finally done, that was with the help of my three simple steps, of course.
Step one, find the perfect match. Check.
Step two, pull a few heart strings. Check.
Step three, leave them love struck...
Looking back at the blushing blond and the flustered red head, I bit my lip.
Check.
Sighing, I threw my back against the cushion of the booth as I took one last look at the two teens before packing up and tucking a loose strand of my brown hair behind my ear.
Pushing past the door of the diner, I felt a gust of wind brush past me, a chilly sensation filling within.
Pulling my coat tightly, I shivered. Sometimes I hated Winter, especially when it was as cold and miserable as this day.
Fumbling for my phone which was snuggly stuffed into the pouch of my bag, I checked the time.
Cursing under my breath, I looked both ways before rushing to cross the road.
I was going to be late for English, again. For the third time this month. I was surely going to get in trouble this time.
Mr Andrews would not be pleased, I could just picture the way his dark beady eyes stared me down as without looking down, he ripped off a piece of a paper from the almost finished pad and handed it to me with a smirk plastered onto his thin lips.
"I'll let Mrs Brown know that she'll be seeing you in detention, Miss Hart." He'd say, the amusement clear in his tone of voice as he mocked me.
Not if I could help it. I thought as I cursed under my breath and began to sprint down the long corridor and make a sharp right that led to the door of the English classroom.
As I passed by the doors of the office, I looked to my left and my eyes almost popped out of their sockets.
Locking eyes with the tall brooding boy for a mere second, I'd thought I'd recognised him, but before I could confirm my suspicions, the bell had rung.
Eyes widening, I swerved in and out of the sea of people as the sound of the final bell rang like a warning sign in my ears.
Just before the ringing could stop, I caught the door before Mr Andrews could shut it, my eyes meeting with his narrowed ones as I smirked.
"Hm." He scoffed, rolling his eyes and letting me in after a little stare off.
Pushing past him, I looked around for my seat and when I saw Alissa, my best friend, had saved a seat next to her, I smiled and sat down.
"Lucky, you got here just in time." My bubbly blond best friend laughed, her blue eyes filling with amusement.
"Tell me about it." I smiled, sending her a relieved glance.
"So-" she started, copying down notes from the board whilst looking at me from the corner of her eye.
"How did the matchmaking go?" She asked.
At the memory, I smiled. "Amazing. You should've seen it Lis. It was just- amazing." I gushed. "Love is just-"
"Amazing?" Alissa answered, laughing at my jokingly sour expression. "Har Har." I joked, rolling my eyes sarcastically.
Resting my cheek against the palm of my hand, my elbow rested on the tattered brown desk.
"All jokes aside, it's your natural born talent El! I can't imagine what it feels like to witness love in action. And yet here you are, doing this sort of thing almost like it's a hobby." Alissa told me, the blue orbs of her eyes brightening.
"More like my life than a hobby Lis. I want to match people for as long as I breath. I'll start my own matchmaking service and everything!" I laughed.
It was a joke really, but still, a little bit of sincerity lay buried beneath my words and I couldn't help but frown at the thought of giving this up.
"I agree! You should do that, for sure! Matchmaking is like- like- your calling!" She snapped her fingers as soon as she'd found the right words.
"Besides, isn't a career meant to be something you love to do otherwise you're stuck in an endless cycle of boredom as you dread the thought of going into work to do something you hate." She added, her words making complete sense to me.
"Who knows, maybe I will open my own matchmaking company, we'll see." I smiled.
"Well, I fully support you, if you do." She winked.
"The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that that's what I want to do. And I'm quite good at it if I do say so myself." Averting my gaze back to the board, I continued to scribble down the words before Mr Andrews wiped the board clean.
"Well, they don't call you Little Miss Cupid for nothing."
