"I'll get that," Tyler hastily replied to the door bell, standing from the current Mets game on the television. In deep concentration, Dylan gave a thumbs up.
Opening in the apartment door, Tyler ushered the brunette girl into the room.
"Dylan, man, someone's here to see you," the best friend announced, making him turn his head.
She stood with a wavering smile and shaking hands, "Hey you, haven't seen you in a bit."
Dylan rose, at a complete loss for words. She was still as beautiful as he remembered, but she had a little hollowing under her eyes from lack of sleep and her posture bent more than characteristically. "What are you doing here, Emmy?"
Emmy held a small box, wrapped in blue paper and a small polka dot bow, one he recalled from her house. "I just came by to give you this-," she handed the present," but don't open it now.. oh god please don't."
"I can wait until after then."
"Thank you, I'd be so embarrassed.."
A silence followed the crimson faced woman and the two stood with thoughts racing through their heads and nothing past their mouth.
"Emmy," Dylan started," Why did you really come here?"
Her brown eyes gazed up at him and he made sure not to directly stare, for they were the two eyes he had and still loved deeply. "Well, Teen Wolf is on a hiatus for who knows how long-" she attempted to joke-" so I'm leaving.. tonight, for Texas."
"How long?"
"A little more than three months, you know, just to think about everything.. but I'd stay.. I would cancel everything right now if one person told me not to go."
Dylan could hear the pleads in her tone, despite her best efforts to conceal it."I can't, I'm sorry."
He swallowed hard. The atmosphere was too thick and the tension on a thread.
Emmy breathed in, feeling the bricks on her chest, "Oh.. well... I have to catch my plane so I better be going-"
"Yeah, sure, definitely," Dylan mumbled, sadly.
Before the tears could roll down her cheeks, Emmy turned to the exit, pausing as her fingers grazed the knob.
Dylan saw the girl twist herself back in his direction, and his heart cracked.
"I'm just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her."
And she left for the airport, and he realized he must stop her from getting on that plane.
