"NO!" Tessa' s mom yelled, " I told you 7 times already, we can't afford a dog!" Tessa sighed, She had made Ace look really nice and put up a very convincing argument on why they should keep Ace, she even offered to pay for Ace herself, but her mom still said no and that she couldn't make enough money by herself to pay for Ace. Her mom's voice snapped her out of her thoughts,"We'll take him to the pound tomorrow." A flood of thoughts rushed through Tessa's mind, images of whimpering puppies and mewling kittens, people looking at the pets and then deciding that they are too much work to keep, people dropping off pets and saying they can't take care of them any more. Tessa immediately said " No mom! I'll find a new home for him, just please don't take Ace to the pound!"
The next day Tessa was still thinking about the conversation she had with her mom the night before. She was still stuck on the fact that her mom had reacted with horror when she found out that she had named Ace and asked her not to get to connected to him. As much as Tessa wanted to keep Ace she knew that she couldn't and it was either find a new home for him herself or Ace went to the pound. At school she was distracted. All she could think about was Ace, how to find a new home for him and why she couldn't keep him. When she was called on during math to answer a question she had to ask what they were talking about and was laughed at by the entire class. It was humiliating.
