Nix and Gradient stalked briskly through the undergrowth, stepping over the occassional frozen pinecone in their path. Smog's words haunted Nix's thoughts, and she pressed her lips together anxiously. She refused to look at Gradient, in fear of him noticing her unease.

A dark, canid figure charged towards the two littermates, paws outstretched. The scent of blood wafted like toxic fumes from their fur. Upon further inspection, it was Skull. "What's going on?" She panicked at his wild gaze.

"Th-they're after me." His voice quivered, "Malice and the pack. They're going to kill me..." He collapsed onto the ground at Gradient's paws. "We need to leave."

"Hold on, Gradient doesn't even know who you are." Nix spluttered, words barely able to keep up with her mind.

"Well, it all started with your dead brother.." Skull began, scampering behind a bush to conceal himself, gesturing for the siblings to join him. As he explained, certain bits would leave Gradient staring at Nix, exasperated, but he stayed silent, listening intently.

"It's fine. I know running away is probably a terrible idea, and we don't even have any idea about surviving on our own, but Diversion would kill him." Gradient furrowed his eyebrows, "But we'd be leaving so suddenly..."

"Alright then, let's run."
