As I walked to the apple tree my thoughts were going a thousand miles an hour. What exactly are the warblers? What's going on with Sebastian? Why is everyone giving me mixed emotions about him? And is he even gay? Soon I heard a low sound, sort of like a hum. As I rounded the corner to the apple tree, I saw about 20 of my classmates standing with their hands folded behind their backs, staring straight ahead. They were the sound, I realized. Suddenly Sebastian stepped out from the crowd, smiling that devilish smile of his.

🎶Uptown girl, she's been living in her uptown world
I bet she never had a backstreet guy, I bet her momma never told her why
I'm gonna try🎶

I was smiling wildly. The guys, the warblers, were really good. Sebastian seemed to be the leader, as he had most of the lines. I'm not surprised, considering he has a beautiful, rich voice. They were all stepping and snapping perfectly in sync, while somehow managing to flash smiles throughout the whole performance. The song ended shortly and I clapped. Sebastian stepped towards me.
"So, Kurt, what did you think?" He says, clearly out of breath but somehow maintaining that cool, confident charm I had already come to love.
"It, wow, it was great Sebastian. You guys are really really good."
Sebastian simply smiled and nodded.
A sudden thought dawned on me. Sebastian had to be the mysterious number that texted me this morning. It made sense. He seems to know so much about me, I guess I shouldn't be surprised he knows my phone number.
"Uh, Sebastian, did you happen to text me this morning?" I ask, trying to be nonchalant but probably failing miserably.
Sebastian doesn't respond, instead he motions for one of the warblers, Trent, one of the ones I met earlier, to come forward. Trent pulls a paper and pen out of his blazer's pocket.
"So, Kurt, can I count you in?" Sebastian asks.
"In? In for what?" I ask, confused.
Sebastian shakes his head a little and chuckles. "The warblers, of course. Dalton's own glee club." He responds.
I'm flustered. What do I say? I mean, I like to dance, and I think I'm pretty good at singing, but I've never done it in front of an audience before. I start to stammer but Trent cuts me off.
"You should totally sign up. The warblers are, like, rockstars." He says. I quickly determine that he is very gay, but not really my type.
"Come on Kurt, I'll write your name down. It will look good to have some clubs on college applications, right?" Sebastian cuts in.
I can't really say no to him, so instead I just find myself nodding.
"Okay, sure. I'll do it. When do I start?"
"Come, walk with me." Sebastian says, motioning for me to follow him.
We walk on a smooth paved path under a few fruit trees. The Dalton Academy campus really is beautiful. Much nicer then McKinley.
"Alright Kurt, here's how it is. You're new. You have lots of questions. They'll be answered in time. For now, let's just walk." Sebastian says, barely looking at me.
"Ok" I say, biting my lip. I stick my hands in the pockets of my gray pants and walk a little faster to keep up with him. Then I realize I'm practically jogging and slow down. Sebastian just looks over at me and smiles.
"So how has your first day been?" He asks after a few minutes of silence.
Honestly it's been pretty bad. I didn't understand science, Latin was boring (I've already had the language memorized since I was four) and my sketch in art was a total fail. Plus I haven't been able to get his face out of my head all day. But I don't want to sound pathetic, so instead I lie and tell him it was good.
Sebastian just nods and keeps staring straight ahead. "You haven't eaten yet, right?" He asks.
I realize that no, I haven't. "No." I respond.
"Great. I know this great little French cafe right down the road. We can get a quick coffee and a pastry. Come on, it's on me."
I can't help but smile. Even though it's obviously not, I feel like Sebastian just asked me on a date. I feel myself blush a little and nod. "Yeah, I'd like that."
We turn onto another street and start walking towards the cafe.
