Hisses, sizzles, and crackles.
These were the sounds emitted in the hidden underground laboratory, where three of the world's top scientists were at work on their self-proclaimed best experiment yet.
Wires were in a tangled mass scattered all throughout the room, and electricity was lingering in the atmosphere surrounding the intelligent men. A single fluorescent light was beating heat down on what lay on the metal table, including the scientists' gloved hands. That lamp was the only source of heat and light in the room - without it, the room would be harshly cold.
Static currents caused the men's hair to stand on end, giving them the cliche "mad scientist" look effortlessly.
So few people knew of this room underground and so few were supposed to, that if someone were to simply mention anything indicating its existence they would have a tranquilizer dart piercing their neck. The government had many secrets, including this experiment, knowledge of the apocalypse, confidential information on extra-terrestrial beings, and so much more. The public eye was absolutely clueless as to how many "myths" were actually true, or at least close to it.
However, this experiment was a bit more simple than zombies attacking, yet not simple at all. The scientists were working on creating a nearly indestructable cyborg. One that could easily catch criminals and escaped convicts. One that could lead to a whole new era of technology. However, they had to be clever to disguise it.
Giving it a female's appearance was a wise idea. Society commonly underestimates females - with reason; few females are seen working as undercover agents. Or at least expected to be. Plus, females would be better able to lure rapists and more into trying to take advantage of their vulnerabililty. Which was an illusion, or at least it would be for this "female."
Of course, everything had to be as precise and realistic-looking as possible. The scientists had been working for years on this experiment, step-by-step. Now, they were almost ready to test her. For the first time, that is. Yes, it took years to simply create a draft of what she could look and function like, and it wasn't rare that this version would fail and they'd have to take another few years to repair her flaws. In fact, it was almost definite that they'd be back to working on improving her. However, this time something miraculous happened.
This time, on the first try, their experiment went as planned.
This time, on the first try, everything was just as needed.
This time, on the first try, the cyborg was ready. Ready to be tested for real - in the real world.
