THE TWENTIETH of November felt rather odd to Jindeok. For some reason, she couldn't stop thinking about Shinwon. No proper thoughts, even, just wondering and worrying about him. She was certain something was going on behind the curtains of his life, as if he were preparing a play and she was sat in the audience waiting for the curtain to rise. Jindeok didn't want to mention any of her concerns about him, but unfortunately, knowing Shinwon, she was aware that she had to gather the wood for the fire first before he would help ignite it. On a good occasion, she thought to herself, I'll do itthen.
As she cleaned a table and let her mind wander to yet again Shinwon's shenanigans, she heard someone barge into the coffee shop rather quickly. Turning her head around to see who it was, she was met by an enthusiastic looking Shinwon standing right behind her.
"Guess what?!" He sounded extremely excited, something she rarely took notice of in him nowadays.
"Good morning to you too," She greeted, smiling but looking quite puzzled. "What's got you so excited?"
"I got a job!" He announced, doing jazz hands and smiling brightly.
Jindeok didn't expect that piece of information at all, so she was frozen for a good couple seconds before she erupted in a series of cheers.
"Will you keep this one for a while now?" She said, half joking but with a hint of seriousness.
"I plan on doing so," He confessed sincerely, scratching the back of his neck. "I really do, I'd like to have something stable in my life for once. But hey, aren't you proud of me?"
Jindeok chuckled as she leaned forward and hugged him. "I am! Truly!" She returned to her place. "Where will you be working now?"
"At a law firm."
"Oh, really? I wouldn't want you as my lawyer, you can barely keep yourself out of trouble!" She joked. "Anyway, I hope they'll treat you nicely there." She patted his arm and turned back around to pick up the cloth she was using to clean the table.
"I'm going to be more of a secretary, really," He explained to her. "And I'm sure I could do a good job as a lawyer, I thought you believed in my abilities!"
She chuckled, and nodded her head. "I know, I know. Maybe one day everyone will want you as their lawyer, uh?"
She made her way to the counter, with Shinwon trailing right behind her, in case any customers went in and she wasn't there to attend to them. He leaned against the counter as Jindeok washed some cups and mugs.
