"But he's human, Colton!" Avery cries from inside the house.
I'm not even in the same room, not even in the house and I can hear her as if I was.
Colton has been trying to calm her down, but so far it has been useless. So I think he's settled for the 'let her cry it out' method.
All these enhanced senses are overwhelming. I can hear Trolls playing in the media room for Kaden and Evelyn. I can see a lone ant on the porch, crawling towards the grass.
Even outside smells better then before. Who knew that it was so fresh and earthy out here.
In fact, I can smell a thousand different new smells, that I was told are peoples scents. Supposedly, I would learn to differentiate between them.
What sucks is that Colton is having me supervised. To ensure that I don't wolf out uncontrollably and hurt someone or myself. It wouldn't be so bad if Jace would actually act somewhat normally. Instead he is staring at me like I told him unicorns exist.
"Please stop staring at me." I say, running my hands through my hair.
Jace sighs heavily before staring at the trees. I can see his eyebrows scrunched together and has he always had that little scar on his forehead?
"I can't help it kid. I...it's... I mean this is just" he blows a breath out of his mouth as he shrugs his shoulders.
I was going to answer, but something caught my attention.
Crickets chirping.
The sound not as annoying as it used to be. Now it sounds like a violin, the notes slow as they fill the air with their song.
I want to be apart of it.
"I want to run. Jace, Please." I clasp my hands in front of me, nearly ready to get on my knees to beg him if I have too.
Something inside of me is begging, no, demanding to be set free. I don't know how to explain it, but I can feel my body craving for a run.
Jace looks more weary of the idea, but I can also see that he understands. He can hear the desperation in my voice.
"What does this mean, Colton?!" Avery continues to cry and my eyes close, willing the sound away.
I can't stand when she cries, she doesn't deserve to be this upset. She has had enough to deal with and now it was her turn to be happy. It's not fair.
It's like Jace knows exactly what I am thinking as his shoulders sag and he stands from the porch.
"Okay, but you stay by my side. Do you understand?" I jump to my feet, nodding eagerly at Jace's words.
My body begins to thrum in excitement. It's like I just drank five energy drinks and the feeling to run is stronger than ever.
"That's your wolf." I look at Jace, curious as to how he knew what I was thinking.
I didn't say it out loud. Did I?
"It's overwhelming at first. The sight, the sound, the feelings. But the feelings are your wolfs. Not always, but you'll learn to tell the difference." He takes his shirt off and throws it onto the porch, followed by his pants.
I'm not going to lie, this feels weird. I have known Jace since we came to live here and now we are stripping naked in the back yard together. And I'll be turning into a wolf which I never thought would happen.
"Picture your wolf and you'll change." Jace says closing his eyes.
The muscles in his body begin to move and flex before his dark grey wolf stands in front of me. Okay, I can do this. Just picture my wolf except I have never seen my wolf.
I saw my paws though and they were golden brown so maybe that's my entire fur color.
I feel a snap, and then another. I brace myself for the pain, but it feels like cracking knuckles. I shake out my fur as this giddy feeling rushes over me. My eyes close on their own, as my ears listen to what is around me.
I can hear water flowing from somewhere nearby and that's where I want to go. My feet move before I even open my eyes again.
I now understand why the wolves love being in this form. The wind through my fur as I run through the woods is indescribable. I feel so in tune to everything around me.
My heart beat matches the thumping of my paws as I dodge around trees and jump over fallen logs. Jace keeping pace right beside me.
My nose hits the ground and I stop running. Who knew the dirt didn't actually smell like dirt?
It smells fresh and I can smell the water from the rain a couple days ago. I can smell the animals that ran through here and I can smell the other wolves. Although I don't know who is who.
I feel something building in my chest at my happiness. It almost feels like I have to burp and before I can think to much into it, my head is thrown back and a howl fills the air.
Liam. Jace, Come back Colton says through the mind link, sounding tired.
I always wondered how it worked and what it would sound like. I always thought that it would sound like my thoughts. But it doesn't. It's more like Colton is standing right next to me, talking into my ear.
Race you! Now that I can actually use my wolf speed and not human speed Jace taunts before taking off at full speed.
Yeah, that's why you always lost. I say back running after him.
My paws thud against the ground as I run through the trees. But my hearts not really into a race, I'll have to beat him another day.
I was so enchanted by the new colors and the animals that I wasn't paying attention to my surroundings.
Growls fill the air as I skid to a stop. The fur on my neck rising and I can feel eyes on me from all angles. My own growls fill the air, warning whoever is here to leave me alone, but they return my growl with a few more.
This isn't good. If I were in my human form, I might be shaking right now. A part of me is thinking that I should shift so that we can talk, but my best bet is in wolf form. Although I don't know how to defend myself at all.
I can see them now, slowly stepping towards me. The circle around me getting smaller and smaller and I don't know where it face. I don't see a way out of this and I am analyzing in my head what to do.
I feel my body crouch, my hind legs tightening in preparations to fight. I don't know how to, but I figure if I just keep biting and clawing I would do some sort of damage right?
It all happened so fast. One minute I am staring down a few wolves and the next one has ponced on me. Our growls and yelps filling the air as the other wolves stand ready just in case. Both of us are on our hind legs, front paws clashing as we snap our teeth at each other.
I cry out in pain as teeth pierce my shoulder. I can feel the blood matting in my fur and when I swipe at his face with my paw, I can see the crimson trail staining my blonde fur. My heart is slamming against my chest as I try and fail to get out of this situation.
The wolf growls and charges for me again. I have no choice but to defend myself, if I try to run one of the other wolves will stop me. I push the pain in my shoulder away as best I can, but my efforts are in vain.
The wolf smashes me head on, knocking the breath from my lungs and launching me a few feet onto my back.
My head smacks against the ground and the smell of blood begins to fill me nose. I think it's mine, no one else here is injured.
I feel dizzy as I try to stand, it doesn't matter because I end up collapsing to the ground anyway. I watch with blurry eyes as the wolf growls and begins to stalk towards me again. Every time I blink the wolf is closer than he was before.
Black spots fill my vision until I'm left shrouded in darkness. The last thing I'm aware of, before losing consciousness, is my body shifting back to my human form.
