Kevin smiled when he lied in bed that night. He felt warm and tingly, he couldn't keep Adam off his mind. He'd had guy friends before, in fact most of his friends were guys. But for some reason Adam kept running through his mind. Even when he tried to stop it.
"You ate? Right Kevin?" Lizzie asked outside his door.
"Yeah mom," he responded.
"Are you okay?" She asked.
"Yes mom," he said as he covered his face with his hands.
"Okay," she sighed walking away.
Kevin sat up and pulled out his laptop. He propped it up on his lap and just stared at the Google search bar. He just typed in "I'm gay," he tilted his head and looked at it. Deleted it and typed it again. His heart was pounding. He typed in "Adam," then hesitated and threw a heart next to his name. He smiled. Then fell back down on his bed.
"Adam," he sighed as he twittled his thumbs, staring at the ceiling. Then his phone went off, bringing him out of his thoughts. It was Adam.
Adam: you up?
Kev: yep
Adam: I'm gonna call you
Kev: oka-Kevin started typing as a FaceTime call popped up on his computer. He rapidly hit the volume down button as he didn't want to interrupt his parents. Then he hurried and clicked accept.
"Hey," Kevin said straightening his back.
"Darn," Adam said, moving to sit up against his wall.
"What?" Kevin asked with a frown.
"I was hoping the first time I saw you shirtless was when I was ripping it off you," Adam winked.
Kevin's face turned bright red as he quickly pulled the sheets over his body.
"Oh and I was hoping that- uh that, the first time I'd see your bed was when uh," Kevin tried flirting, with it awkwardly backfiring in his face. His face turned a bright red when Adam's laughing could be heard through the speakers.
"It's okay loverboy, let me do all the flirting." Adam laughed harder, soon sobering up when he saw Kevin's face. Not much later after he had broken out laughing at something Kevin had said in an attempt to keep up with Adam's seamless flirty retorts.
soon it was roughly five am and they were both still wide awake and talking away about themselves and their plans for later on in the summer and what classes they wanted to take at school. It was as if all the awkwardness had disappeared until his father, Joel walked into the room.
"What are you doing?" he asked flicking the lights on.
Kevin slowly turned his head to his dad, wide-eyed. Adam tried to hold in his laughs at the scene that was playing out in front of him. Kevin couldn't come up with something to say.
"Hi Kevin's Dad." Adam shouted through the computer.
"Hey." Joel waved "You look like a cockroach when you turn the lights on Kevin."
with that Joel left for work. Kevin lied there frozen, what did his dad just call him. He turned back to Adam, who face contorted in a look as if he was trying to hold in his laughs, a hand covering his mouth as his brows furrowed together and eyes brimmed with tears.
"go ahead and laugh."
the laugh blasted through his speakers. they were both surprised that Adam was able to hold it in for so long. "Your family already seems better than mine."
------
the next day, he didn't feel all too amazing in fact he felt like death. He walked into the cafeteria where his class was for the rest of the summer. He was getting help with english and grammar. He sat dropping his backpack on the table infront of him, laying his head on it.
"Good Morning, my loser." Adam laughed dropping next to him "I got you something."
Kevin peeked his eye open at the large cup of coffee, he instantly perked up snatching it and taking a sip of it.
"I've actually never been happier," he beamed.
"I'm ever so glad," Adam said, nudging his arm.
"Like I'm super glad you called me last night but man I'm sleep deprived as fuck," Kevin sighed, leaning back in the seat.
"Language Mr. McCanlen," a teacher advised.
"Sorry," Kevin and Adam laughed. "Why do we even have to be here, it's so pointless," Kevin whinnied.
"Hey maybe stop pouting and enjoy the time we've got together," Adam guilted.
"I-I didn't mean it like that," Kevin explained. Adam just responded with an "I know" and a grin.
"You're cute when your flustered Kev," Adam smiled down at him, still slumped in his seat.
Kevin froze for a second then slipped right out of his chair. Adam burst out laughing quickly throwing his hand over his mouth, trying not to cause a commotion.
"I'm good!" Kevin said from the floor.
"You're something," Adam said as he stood up and helped Kevin off the ground. "how did that even happen?"
"it happens."
They spent the whole period getting barely any of their work down. After lunch, the teacher had split them up, Adam two tables in front of him. Adam turned around making a face at Kevin causing the both of them to laugh further pissing off the attending teacher to the point he kicked them both out for the day. They ended up in Adam's pilot listening to music.
"wanna do something fun?" Kevin asked an idea popping into his head.
"Yeah."
"Drive to my house."
----------
Adam was surprised at Kevin's home. He knew that Kevin's parents where well off but not this well off. Without thinking he asked "What do your parents do for a living, this house is huge."
"It's not that big, this an average house size here, and my moms an interior decorater and my dad's a professer for music and art theroy." Kevin spoke "hungry?"
"Yeah," Adam spoke looking at their open floor plan and fully updated kitchen. "My mom would kill for this."
"Mom!" kevin shouted out knowing his mom was home, because she said she could pick him up. The only time she's not working from home is when she's meeting with her clients.
"Kevin?" Lizzie asked. "Why are you home so early?" She asked, walking into the kitchen.
"Nothing to bad," Kevin explained. "Uh, anyway. This is Adam and Adam this is my mom Lizzie," he introduced them. They shook hands and exchanged greetings, then Lizzie went back into her office to work.
"Uhm, wanna see my room?" Kevin asked as he grabbed snacks out of the cupboard.
"So soon?" Adam joked. "Of course."
Kevin started walking towards the stairs when he had a tiny burst of confidence. He stuck his arm behind him and tried to grab Adams hand but got a hold of his jeans instead.
"Calm down Kevin, at least wait til we're in your room," Adam said. Frowning as Kevin pulled his hand away.
