"That's the one, slow and steady wins the race..."
I huffed as I wrapped up performing one of the wind nature type jutsu Kannon wanted me to learn, stretching my arms towards the sky and throwing my head back with an almighty groan.
"Done! Is that us for the day?"
Grinning at me, Kannon nodded and gave me two thumbs up. Following Sasuke's departure, Kannon and I fell back into our training routine, and slowly, the days and weeks turned into months. Now in August, the weather was beginning to cool down, and I felt more comfortable taking on more difficult training now that the heat of summer had gone. However, I knew that it wouldn't be for much longer, anyway. Once September came around, I would make sure to cease all training completely, just to be safe. I wasn't about to be taking any risks around Shisui's pending birth.
"Nice! Shall we go for a walk and cool-"
As Kannon and I approached Yukata and Ayumi sitting in the shade, I was cut off by the young babysitter abruptly getting up and running towards me, bowing profusely.
"I'm so sorry, I need to leave now!" she apologised hurriedly, bowing repeatedly a few more times before dashing off. Kannon jogged towards Ayumi as I watched Yukata run off in a frenzy, surprised by her urgency.
"Did something happen?" asked Kannon as she bent down in front of Ayumi's pram, poking her nose. I frowned as Yukata sped off and disappeared around the corner, slightly concerned about her behaviour.
"I don't know, she's looked off for a while now. I just hope she's okay," I said with a shrug, turning my attention back to Ayumi. "Hi there, stranger! Did you miss me?"
"She must have! The amount of times she cried today was probably more than every other day put together!" joked Kannon, undoing Ayumi's belt and pulling her out. "Isn't that right, my little Uchiha princess?"
"Kannon," I said in a low voice, clucking my tongue at her nickname for Ayumi. "She has a first name for a reason. You don't have to remind her she's an Uchiha."
"It suits her, though," said Kannon in an as-a-matter-of-fact voice, holding Ayumi high up in the air with a bright smile. "Isn't that right, my little princess?"
Rolling my eyes, I couldn't help but find Kannon's nickname for Ayumi just a little bit amusing. I guess she was, in some cases, an Uchiha princess. Sasuke himself had told me that on his father's paternal side of the family, Ayumi was the first girl to be born in four generations. Talk about a female drought.
"Whatever you say. Shall we walk now?"
"Sounds good to me."
Kannon put Ayumi back in her pram and we began to head off back into town in search of something to eat.
"Right now, I could really do with some deep fried chicken," I hummed as I strolled along, pushing Ayumi in front of me as she played with her toy rattle. It was just another ordinary day for us- another day meant another argument over what we wanted to eat for our late lunch.
"Tera," said Kannon in a criticizing tone. "Come on, man! At least eat something healthy!"
"Shisui wouldn't mind some! Wouldn't you, Shisui?" I asked, rubbing my belly with one hand. Kannon rolled her eyes at me, and motioned for me to stop.
"Here, let me push her," she said, gently taking the handle from me and making me move away. "Don't overexert yourself."
"I am very capable of pushing a pram, thank you very much," I scoffed, nevertheless letting Kannon take the lead. "Anyways, fried chicken. Where to for that?"
