In a large forest sat a large house. In the large house there were many rooms. In the many rooms were many people. In the many people was a malfunction. Or so they all called it. In the many years the people had been living, none had shown qualities of being 'normal'. Or so they all said.
The silence surrounded her. As did the dark walls, the soft moonlight casting its shadows, the sense of someone watching her.
Blythe sat cross-legged on her bed staring out the window where the moonlight was spilling in. The light caused the bars guarding to window to cast some of the deepening shadows. The shadow bars rested on a bed across from Blythe making the bed appear to be strapped down. A chill rose over Blythe's body. Her hands shook lightly in her lap and she glanced over her shoulder only seeing the dark concrete wall of the cell. Cold air breathed down Blythe's pale neck causing her to gasp. Her whole body snapped around remaining alert. She stared the darkness, nothing happening.
"Blythe?" a voice asked. Blythe's attention snapped to the bed with the shadows. A curly red headed girl popped up.
"Yes Mae?" Blythe whispered her eyes darting around.
"Why aren't you sleeping?" Mae asked. She sat up her nightgown falling off one shoulder. "Doctor Welsh would want you to sleep."
"He's here," Blythe replied. She slid off her bed, and crouched beside it remaining still, her short black hair falling into her gray eyes.
"No he isn't," Mae soothed climbing out of her own bed. She took a step toward her friend. "You just need to sleep."
"He's watching," Blythe continued. Her frail body started to shake as she turned to face the wall behind her bed. "I hear him."
"No you don't," Mae said firmly, "get back in bed and sleep."
Blythe didn't listen. Her gaze snapped back to the barred window. Outside the wind began to whimper, a haunting sound as it moved through the bars and into the room. The icy air hit both girls. Mae wrapped her arms around her midsection as she turned to get her thin blanket from her bed. Blythe sank closer to the floor holding her ears.
"No," The raven-haired girl moaned.
"Hush," Mae ordered. She took her blanket and tossed it over to Blythe. The poor girl jumped, scrambling away from the scratchy fabric. "Take the blanket Blythe."
Tentatively Blythe touched the blanket before slowly drawing it closer to her body. Another gush of wind entered the room. Blythe dropped the blanket and stood circling where the blanket had fallen
The high ceiling held only a bit of moonlight, the far corners of the room keeping their black shadows, the large metal door, double locked taunting, the window's shadows still looming over Mae. A shiver ran down Blythe's spine causing her to shake and clutch her arms to her chest. Turning again Blythe stared at her bed. The covers only holding a few wrinkles, pillow perfectly centered.
"He's mad," Blythe muttered. She reached a hand out to her bed.
"Blythe," Mae said hoarsely. Snapping back to her friend, Blythe watched Mae's beautiful face twist into a horrified expression.
Something cool and wet trickled down Blythe's neck, trailing down between her nightgown and spine, her breathing grew labored as she turned her head to the side. Violent red eyes met hers. Slowly Blythe returned her gaze to Mae.
"I can see through it," Mae gasped stumbling back."Why can I see through him," Mae uttered, the only sentence she could speak.
"Him," Blythe corrected lightly. She turned around fully to take in all of him.
His form barely an inch above the ground, hair, probably blonde, dancing in his red eyes, and clothes drenched in none other than blood, though silver it may be. Blythe looked down at his hands seeing a knife, large and crudely sharpened, dripping a silvery liquid to the floor. The pattering of each drop echoed through the room, above the now screaming wind, above Mae's horrified gasps, and Blythe's stuttering heart.
