Delilah's POV
Lucas called me that night. I nearly melted to the sound of his bass filled voice. I could just imagine him relaxing shirtless in a candlelit room in a king sized bed with satin sheets.
He complimented me more times than I ever had in my life. He actually made me feel gorgeous. Anyway, I invited him over so that I could cook us dinner one day. Yes, I love to cook. That's really all I've done throughout my life besides being a vet assistant. I loved my job. I loved every thing about it. Except the mass abundance of domestically abused animals who were starved, beaten, and left for dead by the assholes who they trusted the most. It was my ambition. Helping was in general.
I went to work that next day, was finally able to park in my usual spot. Walked in with a huge smile on my face.
"Good Morning, Terry." I gave Terrence a big welcoming hug.
"Well damn. More like Great Morning." He laughed. I playfully punched him in the shoulder.
"Why are you so happy today?" He asked, rubbing his shoulder.
"Just joyful today." I answered, gently taking one of the newly brought in beagle puppies into my arms.
"They were brought from a drug dealers home. Traces of feces found all throughout their housing unit. Luckily, only 2 out of 15 were found dead. 6 in fatal condition that need immediate emergency procedure." Lucas intruded.
"Then what the hell were you all waiting for, let's get to it." I demanded washing my hands and putting on my latest gloves and face mask. Lucas smiled as he did the same.
We put the first puppy under anesthetic. I decided to name him Flop, considering one ear was indeed floppy and one stuck up.
"What first, Mr.Heir?" I asked smiling, even though he couldn't see it.
"Sterilize his skin while I prepare the scalpels." He demanded. I did as I was told.
"Would you like to do it?" He asked.
"Don't you think it's a little soon for that?" I jokingly asked him. He laughed. "Sure." I added.
He gently took my hand and began the incision.
"Just make sure you keep it straight. An one inch deep 3 inches long incision should suffice." I smiled. "There, all done." He gaped the incision with the surgical clamps.
The surgery was a success. We both walked out of the surgical room together, taking off our gloves and face masks.
"You're a good partner." He softly cupped my face.
"You're not too disappointing, yourself." I sashayed off once again.
"Wait." He yelled jogging towards me.
"Why don't we grab a bite after work? I know this nice place on 7th street."
"I'm not easy, you know? Just because you came here all attractive doesn't mean I'm willing to do what you ask." I smirked.
"And that's what makes you so alluring. So, what do you say? I can come pick you up from your place at about 6?" His soft puppy dog eyes gleamed from the light hanging above us.
"Just say yes, girl." One of my co-workers said.
"Don't be late." I smiled, continuing to walk away.
I went home with the biggest smile on my heart. I was so excited. Not to mention the simple fact that I hadn't been on a date in about 6 years.
I took a shower and flat ironed my hair. I put on my favorite off the shoulder burgundy dress and matching heels that empowered me and made me confident. I SLAYED my face to the gods. I looked myself in my vanity mirror and smiled. I closed my eyes.
"Hi Dad. I know, long time no speak. How are you? Well, I hope. I'm going on date and I want you to guide me. If this isn't right, please show me a sign. I love you. Send mom my love as well." I opened my eyes. Kissing the portrait of my mother and father that lied in a brass frame on my vanity.
I went downstairs to wait on Lucas. I called A'janae to tell her about my nightly plans.
