Chapter Ten: It Has Been Too Long

  One day without Luis turned into weeks and then into a solid month. The next time I see him is the instant I walk into a coffee house on a brunch date with Michael. Our eyes lock, full of passion and history.

  "Hello, everyone. I am Luis Germane, and this is a song I wrote for a special girl." He says as he gets up on stage and takes a seat on the wooden stool set behind the microphone.

  "Walking 29th and park, I saw you in another's arms. Only a month we've been apart, you look happier. Saw you walk inside a bar, he said something to make you laugh. I saw that both your smiles were twice as wide as ours, you look happier, you do." His gaze is locked with mine and his voice is beautiful.

  "Ain't nobody hurt you like I hurt you, but ain't nobody love you like I do. Promise I will not take it personal, baby if you're moving on with someone new. 'Cause, baby, you look happier, you do. My friends told me one day I'll feel it too! Until then I'll smile to hide the truth! But I know I was happier with you!" He sings again so gorgeous that it sends shivers down my spine, this song is for me...

  "Sat in he corner of the room. Everything's reminding me of you. Nursing an empty bottle, telling myself you're happier, aren't you? Oh, ain't nobody hurt you like I hurt you, but ain't nobody need you like I do. I know that there's others that deserve you, but my darling, I am still in love with you. But I guess you look happier, you do. My friends told me one day I'll feel it too. I could try to smile to hide the truth, but I know I was happier with you." He sings with a passionate voice as if he's trying to completely open up and share this with me in our own way.

  "Baby, you look happier, you do. I knew one day you'd fall for someone new, but if he breaks your heart like lovers do... Just know that I'll be waiting here for you." Luis finishes off his song. The whole emotion of that being my song and all, brought tears to my eyes. I began to miss him incredibly, even though he happened to be in the same room as me and my date. 

  My life becomes completely slow-motion. I look over at Luis who even has tears in his eyes himself. Michael gets out of his chair and helps me put my jacket on, that's when Luis loses his passion that I saw in his eyes moments ago, it then becomes sorrow that shows instead.

  He puts his guitar away and shakes his head to himself, I can tell that he feels upset and tricked. I must go talk to him.

  "I'll be right back!" I say and rush over to Luis. He is still putting away his guitar but he manages to find a way to look up at me.

  "Hi, so what did you think of the song...?" He asks hesitantly. The truth is... It made me realize how much I miss him, but he hurt me and he made his decision a while ago it's up to him to see if he wants to change it or keep it. It only matters to him what my answer is to his decision.

  "It was nice!" I say without knowing what else to add to it. Ugh, you stupid idiot! Why did I say that little annoy line of mine, he probably thinks it scared me off inside or something like that.

  "Oh... Nice? I see... Have a nice day, Sawyer." He quietly talks with little enthusiasm; it is as if I had crushed him with my earlier sentence. I didn't mean to, it is just that I had no idea how to say it to him, he's Luis after all.

  "Bye, Luis." I shyly mumble under my breath. I shed a small emotional tear, carrying my feelings. Feeling my tear roll down my cheek causes a few more to stumble down as well. I can't control it, he's gone.
