At the start of intermission, Ben doesn't move from his seat; there's no intention of any movement, so you have to excuse himself to get out to the aisle. Not bothering to open your phone in fear of getting too many notifications, you mutter to yourself on the way to the bathroom. Holy shit, holy fucking shit . You wonder how Jared Kleinman has been written to be so relatable sometimes. As you make your way back to your seat you see that Ben is standing at the back of the theater, on the phone.
"No, Will, don't tell her. She's not supposed to know I'm here...I'm surprising her. How did you not know this, I texted all of you like a week ago. Oh, you don't check your messages, well then that's your fault, Roland. Ok, just shut up about it. See you after the show," He takes the phone away from his ear and presses the end call button. You assume he's surprising Laura, as it is her last day.
Scurrying back to your seat, you try and figure out how to even begin to introduce yourself before someone else comes in and takes the possibility away from you. As he begins to walk down the aisle, you pray someone doesn't come up to him and surprisingly no one does. You bet everyone is just waiting for another person to make the first move; you guess it'll just be you.
"Ben? Hi, my name is (Insert Name) I'm a huge fan. I saw Dear Evan Hansen twice when you were still playing Evan, you were absolutely phenomenal," You stop there before any more words fall out of your mouth.
"Hi (Insert Name) I'm so glad you liked the show! It's so great to see people who have fallen in love with it, I mean, theatre kids are the future," Ben replies. Unsure what to say next, you just spit out,
"Yeah, I actually have a fan account on Instagram. I've met so many great people on it, I just love how Dear Evan Hansen has brought so many teens, as well as adults/kids, together. Of course, with social media, it's never smooth sailing, but overall, the good covers the bad," Oh my god, what did I just say? I just dissed the fandom??? You automatically begin to realize why so many people in school just don't talk to you...words are always being screwed up when you say them.
"Awe, oh my gosh. I'm so glad you've been able to find people who understand you through your account. When I was still in the show, and I guess even now, the cast and I would just have conversations about how amazing you fansens all are. I'm sorry for the bad stuff, that must be awful...no one should have to go through that." He says.
"Thank you. So much. For everything. You don't understand how much it's helped me and my internet friends," You say. Your cheeks are heating up a little and your eyes begin to hurt. Don't cry, stay strong, he's just Ben Platt says the logical part of your mind. But, as usual, the illogical side is always stronger. Oh god, you just had a conversation with Ben Platt and he knows who you are and now you're about to start crying. Story of my fucking life.
"Oh my gosh are you crying? Did I do something? Do you need a hug?" Ben says, going full on Parental™ on you.
"No no, I'm fine. Sorry, it's just you're such an inspiration to me and it's just unbelievable that I'm sitting next to you on Laura's last day," You say, laughing through the tears starting to stream down your face. Before you know what's happening, you feel someone's arms being put around you and, would you look at that, Ben Platt is hugging you. You remember Nicole Van Giesen's snippet of Will's last vlog and how Ben Platt's hug are a blessing and amazing. Well I mean, she wasn't wrong you think as he pulls away and takes you by the shoulders.
"What's your fan account on Instagram? I'll keep a tab on it, make sure nothing serious is happening,"
"Oh, uh, you don't have to do that. I've got it covered," You stutter, still in shock from the hug.
"No really, it's fine," He's says, pulling out his phone and opening reminders.
"Um, it's (Insert Fan Account)" You slowly say.
"Great, thank you. It's been a joy meeting you (Insert Name) I really hope you enjoy the rest of the show because I know I will," He says, finally sitting down in his seat.
Oh god, if anyone took any pictures of me hugging Ben Platt, my direct messages are going to be a complete and total mess. You feel almost scared but very excited to post about your entire experience as soon absolutely possible. Sitting down in your seat, you feel lighter. Maybe it's the fact that you somehow stumbled your way through a successful conversation with Ben Platt, but the theater no longer seems as loud or as busy. You look around, taking in the huge audience filled with teens, adults and elderly people. The chandelier that seems to be shimmering just a bit brighter and the hum of talking seems like a distant sound. The lights start to dim a little and then it is dark as more virtual voices are projected through the speakers. The staggered dialogue and fast speech matching the voices in your head. Ok Act II, whaddya got?
Author's Note
Hi guys, it's Emmy! It will be longer for the third installment of this fic because I haven't written it yet. However, I hoped you like this part! Please comment anything you like, suggestions on my writing or ideas for future writing's. Due to my instagram poll, I will be writing this kind of fic as well as backstories of cast things (for example, the cruise) it will be ship-free, just the cast being themselves. Anyway, there will be two other parts to this story. Act II and a big epilouge that includes why Ben wanted your instagram ;) Hope you enjoyed!
