-Chapter 12-
Spain glanced over at Italy, who seemed to be driving even more recklessly today. "...Are you nervous?" Spain finally asked, not really used to having to cheer Italy up. Italy blinked, and flashed a false smile. "Of course not! Romano can run as fast as me! If he was in trouble I'm sure he would get out of there so fast he could out run a car! Vee~" Italy cheerfully chirped, but it didn't trick Spain. It was obvious to him that Italy was incredibly worried, which was completely understandable. The car came to a screeching stop, making Spain hold onto his seat like his life depended on it. "We're here! Vee~" Italy cheered, as he jumped out from his convertible, not even bothering with the door. Spain unbuckled himself trying to be more like himself and be optimistic, trying think that when they open the door Romano will be there just grumpy as usual.
Spain opened the car door, as Italy waited at the front door, which was a clear sign he was trying to be cautious. Spain patted Italy on the head, making him jump. "Everything is going to be fine." He smiled, seeing how scared Italy was. Italy nodded and opened the front door, walking in slowly "Romano! I'm home!" Italy shouted in the most cheerful voice he could manage. "About fucking time! The pizza is getting cold!" Both Italy and Spain let out a sigh of relief. He certainly sounded normal. Romano stormed out of the dining room "I was starting to get worried you-!" Romano let out a scream at the sight of Spain. Italy immediately ran to his side, "Romano?!" he shouted confused and scared. Romano took a deep breath "You bastard! I thought you had been followed! Why didn't you tell you tell me you were going to bring the tomato bastard with you?!"
"I just thought it would be safer this way! Vee~" Italy defended, smiling simply because he could see his brother was fine. Romano sighed "Just go eat dumby." which Italy cheerfully nodded his head at this and practically skipped into the dining room. Leaving Spain and Romano alone, Romano still slightly shaking. Spain grabbed Romano's arm "Why are you shaking?" a certain intensity in his voice. Although the Romano in front certainly talked like normal, and sounded normal, even looked normal, in his usual outfit and his hair the same shade it always has been, but he still didn't trust him. Romano balled his hand into a fist, "I'm scared! Alright? Someone that looked identical to me suddenly showed up in my life, got my trust and said something along the lines that he was going to hurt my brother!" Spain tilted his head. It did sound understandable.
"Alright, I guess I'll go." Spain said with concern, he still wasn't completely convinced but he seemed to be telling the truth. He turn back towards the door as Romano exclaimed, "No wait! Take the back door-" but it was too late. Spain could see the red stain on the hard wood floor that he hadn't noticed when he walked in, then taking note of the new paint only on one part of the door, as if to cover up something. Spain turned to Romano instantly pushing him against the wall "Where's the real Romano?" he asked, in a threatening tone he hadn't used since his days as a pirate. "Calm down- It's- It's just some spilled tomato juice!" "Where's Romano?!" Spain shouted, making the Romano in his grip go pale and his eyes widen. It was obvious he was terrified. "You...You're the same as him...." "Where's Romano?!" Spain shouted desperately.
"You guys?" Italy's voice called out from the dining room, obviously concerned. "N-nothing Italy! We'll be in there a minute!" Romano's imposter shouted back, then turning his head back to Spain, "You aren't going to tell him are you? You saw how relieved he was when he saw me." Spain gritted his teeth together. He moved his hand to the Romano's throat, "What? You're going to strangle me if I don't tell you where he is?" he chuckled at the idea before continuing "That would be a good idea, if you didn't mind it if your Romano were to die." "What?!" Spain exclaimed, his eyes widening. "Well... a blood splatter doesn't just appear as you know, and I don't think he'll last very long if you're just running around looking for him aimlessly, he doesn't have much time as it is." Spain wanted to snap his neck right then and there, but if it meant possibly getting his Romano killed he could bring himself to do it.
