It sucks being the new girl. It feels like everyone's looking but at the same tine nobody is looking. Nobody cares. Nobody gets you. You feel small and insecure for the first few days.
But when you're tossed into a school halfway through the trimester, sometimes, you also get tossed straight into a science project and get partnered up with a cute, funny, awkward boy with close to the same music taste as you.. and his ridiculous friend but that's not important. As soon as we got to making the volcano this boy, Lucas, started to make cheesy jokes that made me feel right at home instantly. Hazel ended up pulling the funnies from the stack of newspaper and reading them, elaborating that she missed seeing them since her aunt moved and that's how she'd read them. By the end of the project Hazel had developed a crush, but would never say or do anything about it because he didn't seem like the type to date, and because she was 100% sure he felt nothing for her.
