An infection called the Cordyceps Brain Infection has spread throughout the world, a fungus which grows on the brain of a human and takes over the function of the brain - causing them to lose control of themselves and their body.

Ten years have passed since the infection broke out. The human race is restricted to Quarantine Zones controlled by government enforcers. Nature has taken back the surroundings which the humans took from it; buildings decaying and collapsing, the world is now envelopes in a sheet of green. The humans are expected to follow the government rules of not leaving the zones, restricted to rations which are barely enough.

But most of the residents of the zones refuse to live. They break the rules; find escape routes from the zone to bring back food to the hungry. Rebel groups formed; the Fireflies and the (poorly named) Maggots. The anti-government. The Maggots are inside the zones, to bring food in, give vital information to the Fireflies. The Fireflies are located in labs outside the zones. They're working their way to a cure, and they think they've found it.

Boston Quarantine Zone; two regular 'Maggots' are selected to transfer a supposed cure that the Fireflies have discovered almost the full way across the continent to Salt Lake City, Utah.

Tay Johnston and Harry Styles are the lucky pair to be selected; they've been best friends for over four years and are practically unstoppable as a team. Throw Liam Payne into the mix; Firefly, quiet, enjoys pissing Tay off. It's down to these three young adults to deliver the small cure they have across the continent to the main base of the Fireflies, where they have the resources to test and produce the cure in ways that the small Eastern base couldn't.

The fate of humanity lies in their hands, can they do it? Or will the journey be too much? They live in a brutal world where death and loss are all too common. But some people are lucky, and find something that they never knew they wanted or needed.

Hope is the only fuel that people in this world can run on, yet it's lost. Although, just because something's lost doesn't make it impossible to be found again.

So yeah? This happened? I had an idea and this just kind of developed and I am so stoked to write this! It's not going to be my usually lovey-dovey type thing, although there will be some romance between certain characters. I've wanted to write an apocalypse fic for a while now, and I thought using One Direction as characters would be fun!

This story is heavily influenced by the game 'The Last Of Us' but you don't need to have played the game to read this. A lot of characters I use are influenced by characters in the game, but I describe most of them differently; same with a lot of the situations/plots, but I try to change them as much as possibly! This is a mixed The Last Of Us/One Direction fanfiction anyway so yeah... All credits go to Naughty Dog for the ideas! I put a lot of my own spin on things, so don't worry ;)

I hope you like this idea as much as me! First chapter probably won't be posted for a while though, but not too long. I've made a playlist for this too (oops, I got carried away) so I'm going to post that, and maybe a prologue. I'm hoping to start posting this as soon as my exams are done so June!
