Most of the time, Jae was able to make a move on anyone he wanted. This time, however, it was different. It was as though he was paralyzed, and, in contrary to his beliefs, this time he couldn't move. He was standing in the middle of a coffee shop with the shittiest coffee he'd ever tasted, staring at the most un-shitty girl he'd ever laid eyes on.
Jae wanted to talk to her, but HE COULDN'T MOVE. His subconscious was yelling at him, telling him to stop staring at the girl, to stop being such a damn creep, but she was so perfect, though. She had the most lightest hair he'd ever seen, and it made him question if she had gotten it dyed or if it was her natural born hair.
She was smiling, laughing along with her friends, carrying on with the life that Jae wasn't a part of. And, quite frankly, it saddened him. It saddened him because he wanted to know why she was laughing. He wanted to be the reason why she was laughing. It seemed that the world around Jae was silenced, and all he could hear was her euphonious laugh that was so contagious, it could even get the most miserable person on earth to break a smile.
The moment the girl's eyes, soft and curious, locked into Jae's, his blood began pumping faster. His pulse quickened to what felt like 100 mph. His face began to feel hot, and his palms began to feel like they were dripping in sweat. He was afraid he'd drop his shitty coffee and look like a total spaz.
The girl's eyes, however, they told a story all on their own. He didn't have to ask her about her life because he could see straight through them. They were so green, yet so soft and so sad. Even the laughter couldn't shut out the sadness he saw.
And he wondered.
He wondered how she could sound so happy yet look so sad.
And he wondered.
He wondered if every say she got complimented about her eyes.
They reminded Jae of the outside of a watermelon. A broken watermelon. One that no one wanted to handle because they were afraid that it wouldn't be sweet enough or simply that it would be too messy. And so he smiled to himself. Because here Jaelin was, staring at the most un-shitty girl with the brightest, yet saddest, eyes that told so many lies, and Jae was thinking about fruits.
And when he smiled to himself, she smiled back at him.
Which in turn, only made Jae even more immobile. When the girl looked away, Jae regained his composure, and battled between walking out of the coffee shop or going over and asking her if she thinks the coffee is shitty, too. After another mere minute of an intricate disagreement between his choices, he chose to walk away...
Because sometimes, even the most broken things aren't meant to be fixed.
Sometimes, the brokenness is the beauty that others who are full fail to see.
