the day passed by quickly with a visit from her friends at school who, thankfully, brought jennie her favorite smoothie and some tangerines to eat.
"kyung hee wanted to bring you fries, but we did some research and we found out oily stuff isn't good for you after you haven't eaten in a while." jae suh had said, handing jennie a plastic bag with a sympathetic smile.
the large group had bid her goodbye after cheering her up, exiting the hospital room with a bunch of smiles.
if only that was my family.
soon enough, it was time for dinner. jennie informed the nurses she had food, showing it to them. and now jennie felt more relieved feeling the fresh taste of the sweetness of tangerines in her mouth.
she hadn't eaten anything like this in such a long time.
jennie sipped on the smoothie, sighing in relief as her stomach was decently filled for the evening. she quickly threw away the empty bag in the trash can outside her hospital room, and shuffled back to her hospital bed and closed her eyes for a bit.
jennie then stared outside at the half open window, admiring the warm colors of the sun setting and feeling the slightly chilly but refreshing breeze against her skin.
the clock ticked by, and now, it was completely dark outside. the nurses came in later to check up on jennie, closing the window and rolling down the blinds afterwards.
it was then that jennie realized her father nor her sister showed up to visit her. and the visit from her mother had still left jennie overwhelmed at how brainless and ignorant her own mother could be.
why did she hope her father and sister would show up anyway?
you're stupid, jennie, your dad's always busy and your sister probably despised you the minute her tiny ears heard you were being formed in mom's stomach.
the door to the room was then shut by nurses, prompting jennie to rest for the night.
as jennie lay in the room all alone, she could distantly feel a few tears rolling down her cheeks before her eyes fluttered close.
—
"she can be discharged later this afternoon." jennie heard as she stirred awake. she sat up quickly, no longer feeling dizzy anymore.
her vision stopped being blurry, now seeing her family talking to her assigned doctor. "alright, thank you." her father said to the doctor, who bowed slightly before walking out of the room with an accompanying nurse.
jennie felt possibly more drained after seeing sapphire's face that expressed carelessness and her father's eyes giving her a once over. "so, can we go now?" sapphire picked at her fingernails, showing no signs of even a little bit of concern.
"um-"
"sapphire, stop." their father said clearly, his phone then ringing. "oh, hello? yes, okay." he turned to their mother. "i got to leave for the conference. i'll see you later today." and just like that, he was out the door.
"mom, can we go now? this is pointless." sapphire narrowed her eyes at jennie. "are you sure you didn't fake anything?"
"no!" jennie responded.
"you just want attention cause you're feeling 'sad'." sapphire chuckled sarcastically. "mom, let's go."
and just like that, they were out, too.
and just like that, jennie was done, too.
