Trubel's POV
"Nick!" I yelled. I was going to tell him not to listen to Andre, but Bruno came over and put his hand over my face.
"Trubel?" Nick asked. He sounded worried. I needed to get him to calm down before he did something stupid like try a rescue mission. I was pretty sure I was going to die and somehow I had to get Nick to let it happen. I couldn't let him try to save me and get killed doing it.
"What do you want?" Nick demanded.
Andre's tone darkened. "You don't know who I am? Does the name Kai sound familiar?"
Nick didn't have any time to answer.
"He was my brother. You shot him!" Andre yelled. "He's dead because of you! It's about time you lost someone, don't you think?!"
"I'm sorry about what happened to your-" Nick began to say.
"Save it," Andre snapped. He turned the camera toward me. "Your time to shine, honey." Bruno moved his hand.
I hated them so much. "I already told you I'm not reading your stupid script," I hissed.
"Even if Nick wanted you to?" he asked, raising his eyebrows.
"Why would Nick want me t-" I started to say. Before I could finish, Hunter, a Weten Ogen, walked up to me and punched me in the face. I had to admit, it was a solid blow. My ears were ringing and I groaned.
I heard Nick yell, "No!" right before I was hit. He was going to make this worse for both of us. He was reacting the exact way that they wanted him to.
"Read it!" Andre commanded.
"Bite me," I growled.
Hunter looked like he was going to hit me again. He pulled back his arm and was about to let it snap forward, but Nick yelled, "Wait! Wait!"
Andre nodded, signaling for Hunter to wait.
"Trubel," Nick said softly. I looked up at the phone and could see his face. He looked guilty and heartbroken, and I started to feel bad that he had to watch this. "It's okay," Nick said gently. "You can do what they say," he added earnestly.
What? Did Nick think I was waiting for his permission? That wasn't it. I didn't want to read the cards because they would encourage Nick to try to save me. I couldn't ask him to do that.
I could see by looking at his worried face that he would rather have me obey and live than rebel and die. I couldn't do that, either. I was going to die, anyway, and I wasn't going to die a coward.
"Nick," I said, wondering how I was going to finish my sentence. "You know they're just going to kill me anyw-"
Nick interrupted me. "Please do what they say," Nick begged. I must not have looked like I was going to listen to him because he added, "Trubel, please."
I couldn't keep listening to him beg me for things. It made me feel uncomfortable because Nick didn't beg for anything... not usually.
I thought about what my next move would be. I looked at the cards and sighed with defeat.
"They want me to say that you are going to suffer for what you did. And that you're going to lose someone just like Andre did if you don't do exactly what they say. They want me to tell you that I don't want to die and-" I suddenly stopped paraphrasing the cards. The next part was bad. "I'm not saying that next part," I said, sounding determined and disgusted.
"Do you think you're playing a game?" Andre yelled. "Don't mess with me!"
"Why don't you read the damn cards if you care so much?!" I shouted at Andre. He didn't like that.
