It was the fourth of July, 2010. I was sitting on comfy my chair. Although it was not comfy, it was kind of small and similar to the straight-backed. My back was propped up by the chair with my hands playing the role of an imaginary soft pillow and I was looking outside observing the beautiful view from the high-arched window and brooding. I could imagine the chirping of the morning birds with the clattering of morning walkers. I could imagine the sun rising and enlightening San Francisco with its soft orange-yellow filtered light. I could imagine the kids standing at the bus stops waiting for the school bus. I could imagine the early risers waking up for their work-out or to prove a theory wrong. I never knew why I could imagine all that just by looking out of that window on that day even though I had been working at that exact same spot for the last 6 years. As I whiled my time to observe and imagining, a deep voice interrupted my vision. "James, the boss asked you to visit him." said boss' assistant Gary. "Oh! Yeah umm.. okay"I responded nervously as I clenched my teeth and forced a smile and went back to working on my computer.
A short introduction about me, I'm James, James Blunt. A 28-year-old software engineer and I live alone in a house. I liked to sing a lot and I even had impressed many people by singing in the subway and on the streets but due to my fear of failing I settled for something I never wanted to do. I still remember when I used to sing my heart out on the streets with a guitar hanged by my neck and after each song, I would shout "Search James Blunt on youtube. Show some support". But I would hardly get 50 hits on every upload which, of course, demotivated me to the utmost level. Whatsoever, coming back to the point, I minimized all of the programs and headed towards the boss' office which was 15 desks away from mine. I walked calmly watching everyone on their desk, working and some of the employees even stared back keeping an eye contact until I passed them. I knocked on the door three times before boss, Morris answered: "Come in". The door creaked opened as I walked into his office. He was still oblivious to the fact that someone was there and he kept writing something on a paper. I cleared my throat to give him an indication of my presence which he noticed. He looked at me and then at the paper and then at me again "Ah! Major Tom! Sit down sit down " he offered as he kept the pen down and smiled brightly. "Haha... Sir, Gary informed me to visit you about something. Do you have something important to say?" I questioned as I made myself comfortable on the chair. "Son, listen up, some employees have complained about you. They notified that most of the times you are found wasting your time by looking out of the window or by staring at something. You have been a good employee and I like you a lot and you know that. I don't want to take any actions against you. So listen up this solutio--" By the midway of his sentence, I found myself staring at his World's Best Daddy mug. I found myself absorbed, oblivious to the passage of time as he continued speaking. "Understood, James?" Morris confirmed. With a dreamy look on my face, I didn't respond. I didn't even know that I was supposed to respond. "James?" he asked again with a quizzical look etched on his face. "OH! yes, sir, you were saying something?" I asked, oblivious. Morris sighed and leaned on his chair and rubbed the throbbing away while he said wanly "Listen, you look tired and if you want a few days off, I'll be obliged to help you.". " Thanks, sir but that I'm fine." I responded as I walked out of his office with my head down.
