"I know what my heart is like
Since your love died:
It is like a hollow ledge
Holding a little pool
Left there by the tide,
A little tepid pool,
Drying inward from the edge."
-Ebb, Edna St. Vincent Millay

I wrote this short story, or started writing it initially beginning as a side project. It was at first a mere idea, as the LGBT rights advanced and homophobia became mostly lost to the past, or at least that was how the media portrayed it.
As I kept writing, I began to think more about the story. While the world has become more progressive, and more accepting, we still see homophobia, xenophobia, racism, sexism, and
hate.
Hate has been so apparent these recent years. With Paris two years ago, Orlando last year, Charlottesville and Las Vegas this year, and so many more violent and hateful acts, it has seemed like the world has started to collapse. Even worse, the horrible homophobic crimes in Chechnya and around the world have not stopped.
Hate is still around us, and I wrote this story to try and bring attention to the blatant hatred in the world. Though the main character in the novel suffers from much more than homophobia, he offers an insight into how the lives of some of the oppressed. I wanted to show the real world, and the effects of hate on each individual. I wanted to address a multitude of problems with humanity & society and how we deal with those problems.
I wanted to reveal the truth.
As you read, keep in mind that some of these things are happening all over the world. Keep in mind that many people are suffering, mentally and physically due to oppression, hate, and bigotry. As you read, think about the effects of hatred on others.
Then, perhaps, the more people who choose to read this story, the more people will choose to quell their hate in favor of love.
