Chapter 2-POV Justin
"So" I said to Jay "you're Jessica's brother?"
"Yup" he said as we walked through a crowd of people to class. I looked down at the floor to make sure I didn't trip over and when I looked up I couldn't see Jay. The wave of people dragged me with them like I was a leaf being pulled by the fast moving current. When I managed to find a way out of the group I looked across the sea of people. I wasn't use to seeing this many people walking around. At my old school there was only 500 students, about 100 in each year. I felt someone bump into me. I turned around to see a tall, blond haired, blue eyed girl wearing a blue and green cheerleaders uniform.
"Sorry" she apologized as she regained her composure.
"Its fine" I said, mesmerized by her eyes.
"I don't think I've seen you around here before" she smiled.
"I'm new" I told her. "Today's my first day". I looked at her for a while before realizing that I should probably introduce myself. "I'm Austin" I told her extending a hand shake.
"Cindy" she said shaking my hand "Cindy Louis".
"Pleased to meet you"
"You too. I have to get to class, but I guess I'll see you around". She turned around and walked away, her high ponytail swinging from side to side. Her short skirt swished as she took each step.
"Austin!" I heard Jay yell from behind me. "Where the hell did you go?"
"Um..."
"Never mind, we have to go. I don't wanna be late for music". Jay said as we started walking. By now the corridors were mostly empty except for the odd person who couldn't be bothered going to class.
When we got to class everyone was doing their own thing so Jay and I managed to sneak in and not be noticed. I sat at the back in between Jay and Hannah.
"Hi" Hannah said as I got out my sketch book.
"Hi" I replied. Hannah moved closed to me
"How's your first day going?" I moved slightly away.
"Good" I replied. Hannah moved even closer that before and this time wrapped her arm around mine.
"That's really good" she giggled. I looked at Jay and mouthed the word help. Jay nodded.
"Hey Hannah" Jay said "shouldn't you be with your friends talking about makeup or whatever it is girls talk about". Hannah got up huffing and left the room, taking her school bag with her.
"Thanks" I said to Jay. "What the hell is her problem anyway?"
"She's mega rich. Both her parents are surgeons. She thinks she can get whatever she wants, she normally does as well"
"Well she has boundary issues" I laughed.
"If you think that's bad" he leaned in and spoke in a quieter voice "her boyfriend caught her making out with his brother. She apologized, said she'd never do it again, bought him a brand new Rolex and he forgave her"
" He forgave her?" I repeated in shock
"Yup. Blamed his brother. They haven't spoken since"
"Damn" I said. Jay looked at his phone.
"I've got a piano lesson. You gonna be OK here?"
"I'll be fine" I told him and he left.
I put my headphones on and played my favorite Beatles song. To be perfectly honest I don't even know why I'm taking music. I don't play it, I dance to it.
My mind started to wander and I found myself looking at Jessica in her class. I could see her through the window with a neutral expression. Her head started to look around her and eventually found me. When she saw me her face lit up and she had a grin from ear to ear. A girl sitting behind her thew a scrunched up piece of paper at her. As she read the note her smile began to fade. She stood up grabbed her bag and walked to the teacher who was sitting at her desk. I saw the teacher nod and Jessica left the room. Where's she going? There's still 10 minutes left of second period. My eyes followed the walls of the classroom where she would be walking behind them. When she appeared her eyes were red and she was wiping away streams of tears. Her mascara was running down her cheeks causing her to have panda eyes. People who were in their classes started at her as she walked past the windows. They were whispering to one another. Jessica's walk broke into a run. She turned left into girls toilets and disappeared from my sight. Should I ask her about it when I see her? No Austin. You've only known her for a few hours. It's her businesses.
I look up and hear the bell ringing in my ears. It overpowers the Aerosmith song playing through my headphones and drowns out Steven Tyler's voice. I pick up my bag and head to the door to join the swarm of people. I push my way to the left and emerge from the pool of people. Jay's on the phone and he looks worried.
"OK. I'm on my way" I hear him say before he hangs up.
"What's up?" I ask him.
"Jessica. She's in the medical room"
"Why?"
"I don't know. I need to go see her"
"I'm coming with you" I demand as I follow him.
"Fine" he said breaking into a run "but hurry up."
We ran past classrooms and teachers. We came to a crowd of people. I thought Jay was gonna stop but he didn't. He ran straight through the group, pushing people out the way. I followed, sprinting through the path he had already cleared. People yelled at Jay but he just kept on running. He only slowed down when we reached a building I assumed was the office. Jay pushes the door open, walks in and stops for a brief second. He turns to the left and starts running again. I follow him a few steps behind.
