The Land of Predators and Prey

Chapter 1

        I woke to sunlight and a soft breeze on my face, my eyes opened to see forest. Some of the leaves had started to turn all different shades of red and orange. I steadied myself against a tree as I was standing. My legs were wobbly and my long brown hair was tangled with leaves. How did i get here? I thought. The last thing I remember was walking down the halls of my high school towards the math room. Could I have been kidnaped to drugged? And been dragged out into the middle of nowhere by some serial killer? I froze for a second when I heard a voice talking from a clearing. I waited a moment before calling out.

“Hello? Is anyone there.” There was silence I took two steps towards the clearing and, BAM! Something hit me so hard it knocked me to the ground. And little did I know at the time but this moment would start a chain of events that would change everything I knew.

“Shit,I am so sorry I didn't see you there.” Someone said. “ Are you ok?”

“ Yeah I'm fine” I said Looking up to see a girl. She looked like she was 16 my age or maybe a year older. She had short light brown hair and light hazel eyes. Her skin was fair but tanned. She was wearing light brown pants and matching shirt, and what seemed to be a brown feathered cape. She stretched out a had to me. Took it and she helped me up. She opened her mouth to say something but was cut of by the sound of leaves crunching. She paused and looked towards the sound of the leaves.

“Get down!” She said and grabbed my arm and pulled my down.

“Ow!” I said and I opened my mouth to say more but she had thrown a had around my mouth. We stayed there for about 30 seconds before she stood up.

“What was all that all about.” I said standing up and rubbing my mouth.

“Nothing” She said looking back at the clearing. And as she did i realized something, her cape it was in fact not a cape but to large bird wings that came out of long slit on her shirt. I took a step back and stared at her.

“What...what are you.” I said reaching down for a stick.

“What do you mean.” She said tiring back and looking at me.”Whoa what's wrong?” She said taking a step towards me, and I took one step back.

“What wrong! I wake up in the middle of the would run into… some weird bird. I am not doing anything until you tell me what is going on here!”I said finally realizing how scared and unsure I was.

“OK calm down. My name is Lilyish I am part of the council of the throne.”Lilyish said. She stared at me sniffed the air then continued “You are not from here are you…”

“Where are we!” I said starting to get frustrated

“We are in the central provenance.”Lilyish said. I razed an eyebrow ”What”

“Wow...You really are not from here.” Lilyish said

“Where even is here! Ok look I am from New York… North America… Earth!” The second I had said Earth Lilyish face had drained of color. There was a pause before she said.

“Earth… You are from Earth… So you are human.” The way she said human like it was the most disgusting thing she could think of. She stared at me, my legs start to wobble as those large wings flared with anger. A rustling came from the leaves behind me but I didn't dare take my eyes off of Lilyish. I felt a hand on my shoulder and screamed.
