High School Graduation
"Congratulations to the graduating class of 2014!" This was it! The moment I've been waiting for my whole existence! Okay not really but hey I'm finally a high school graduate! I make through the crowd and I am greeted by hugs and kisses from my family. To say that they were proud would be an understatement. Just looking at my Hooyo (mom) makes all the pain, sleepless nights and the suffering worth it. Now I can enjoy sleeping in and just watching Netflix 24/7!
A Random Summer Friday
"Ladan Hooyo please wake up. It's time for Jummah prayer!"
I guess that's my sign to get up even though my bed is way too comfortable. After checking my phone for any new notifications, I get up. The ride to the Masjid is peaceful and quiet. My family goes to our local Masjid and we've been going since we came to America. First thing I see when we enter the Masjid parking lot is a group of Muslim guys and their long white thobes. Which is the long white clothing Muslim men wear. I didn't pay them any mind because I remind myself to lower my gaze and carry on with my walk. Being the clumsy person I am and not paying any attention to where I was walking, I almost got hit by a car. Thanks to Allah, the man driving stops the car. The guy kindly gets out the car and asks me if I'm okay and if I was hurt. I don't know if it was because it was a Friday or because the guy was just nice. At first I didn't look up because of the shock but when I heard his soft, calm and soothing voice, I just had to. Mashallah and he did not disappoint. I can hear my Hooyo calling me so I apologize for my lack of attention and walk away quickly.
After the two hour lecture and prayer, my family walks out. Just as I was about to leave, the Imam see us and makes it his duty to get me and my brothers to stay for a youth seminar. I didn't mind going but that means I had to walk by all those guys again. Thanks to the Imam and my dad. I hid behind my brothers and we quickly go back to the masjid. In a hour, the seminar would start and the unexpected happened. The guy who almost hits me is introduced by the Imam and he starts talking. Oh my Allah!!
"Salaam guys! My name is Luqman and today I will be giving a mini lecture on the importance of prayer." I was in awe with his lecture. Mashallah he knew so much and he was so humble with his guidance. At the end of the seminar, the Imam said we was gonna have a little competition between the boys and girls to see who can answer the most questions about the information reviewed in the seminar. The competition went on and the game was a tie. The teams choose a person and it was gonna be head to head. Surprisingly, my team choose me and the boys selected Luqman.
I don't know if he let me win but somehow I won.
Later on that day, when I was about to leave, Luqman comes to me and says, "Good game Ladan. Mashallah you're so knowledgeable."
I played it off smoothly but God knows I was a mess inside. I know I'm so haram but this Luqman character is gonna be a problem.
