Gunshot injuries occur when someone is shot by a bullet or other sort of projectile from a firearm. This part isn't about treating the wound or legal and forensics either.
There are many different types of bullets and so many people to shoot at.
Let's talk about danger areas. Those shall be: brain, neck, lower intestines, heart, lungs and the stomach. So keep that in mind.
The human body does possess certain defense mechanisms in the event of rapid blood loss, so don't shoot someone in his hand (as in your character doing that) and look forward to him or her to die quickly.
Penetrating trauma and tissue damage from projectiles are a bit different because those have the potential to cut through arteries. It all comes down to shot placement and the passage of the bullet. Bullets can bounce, ricochet, and change trajectory under the skin.
