1690 AD in France. Miles away from Paris due to noise, the Kingdom and royal family majority lived in the town of Royce. A fine town. High majority of their people were doing well enough to get by. Naturally some peasants but that was always bound to happen and sometimes forever not good reason.
The clock strikes 8 AM as the built in clock in the palace has the bell ring. Inside the door opens to a teenaged boy's bedroom. Not the one with clothes all over the floor, used cups and silverware, or a mattress with no sheet. Or in fact a small bed with spare sheets and a single pillow. As for a few reasons. This was served with fine sheets of all silk and a small hill of pillows mostly for show. One their were multiple servants to help make sure everything looked spick and span. And two because it was the room of a Prince. Prince Ryluscious Robin Taiown.
A maid walks in and pulls the curtains open as a butler has some fresh tea made. The boy is already awake and dressed. But not in the fancy robes one would think. "Good morning William and Isabella." The boy smiled.
"Master Ryluscious are you really working today? It's a Saturday." Asked William.
"The market doesn't close until nightfall and I have a game of rugby to play with the boys."
Isabella cringed a little. "Must it be so violent? How about polo or croquet?"
"The excitement and joy of it." He smiled.
"Do be careful Master Ryluscious." She bowed.
Ryluscious shook his head. "William.
Isabella. Please. I've told you this many times. You don't need to be formal in front of me. It's just us. And please. Just Rylus.""Very good sir. By the way I cannot help but question. Do your friends call you Rylus?" Puzzled William playing with his mustache.
"Yes indeed. Rylus Robin. I use my middle name as a last name to cover up. And it's a mid grade merchant so they aren't close to my father. I got this job my way and made friends my way. I like it personally."
"I cannot say I understand Master Rylus."
"It's a start." Rylus chuckled. "But one day if I do become ruler I will get to know so much. Learn so much. More about the people and what it's like to work for what you have. I know to read and write but this is stuff you can only learn in what I call 'the field' so to speak." Even though for a royal family member he was quite more educated then most. He had a unique way of observing what was in front of him and he was using it to gain knowledge.
William smiled. Then he chuckled. "Oh have faith dear boy Master Rylus. This man plans to be a worker of King Rylus one day."
"I sure hope that is the case. I'll need everyone here to help me. You have known me since birth. Saw me grow. Watched me read and write and learn problem skills. And Isabella you will be in charge of all the ladies. I give you my word."
Isabella stopped dusting for a moment to smile at the boy. "You are quite kind Rylus. I do give my thanks on advance."
Rylus looks on the mirror. His shoes are polished yet have a little ware to them, his pants look like they have been through a bit of work, his shirt with a straight collar, and a hat to top it all off. It helped him blend in with the people.
"Alright Isabella and William I am going to be off soon." He waved to them.
"Master don't forget to see your his majesty before your departure." Called William.
"Thank you. I will. Good day." And with that Ryluscious Robin Taiown was on his way. A boy seeking knowledge, adventure, and answers to the questions not even thought of yet.
