Chapter four
Girls just wanna have fun
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The rest of the weekend went by pretty fast. After getting chewed out by my mother for keeping Pac out so late, I stormed upstairs and didn't come out until Sunday evening. Then I got ready for bed, read Pac a bed-time story, and then fell asleep.
"Hey, Val. How's it going?" My chemistry partner, Josh, asked. He's cute and all, but definitely not my type. He's on the soccer team, and has a reputation for being a notorious pervert and flirt.
"Good, I guess," I answer cautiously, while writing down today's lab assignment in my notebook. "You?"
"Pretty good." He smirked, like I was missing out on a joke or something.
"Cool." I nodded my head. My teacher, Mrs. Hathaway, strolled through the door carrying an arm-full of papers, and then a coffee cup. I got up to sharpen my pencil then went back to my desk when it had a nice, pointy tip.
"So..." Josh trailed off. "You going to that party this weekend?"
"No, probably not." I've never been one for parties. Especially ones that involved alchohol and drunk teenagers grinding against each other.
"Why?" He cocked his head. "It's gonna be fun. Real fun, actually."
"Doubt it," I said, rolling my eyes.
Josh sighed, moving his chair closer to me. I could practically smell his after-shave. "Who doesn't like parties?" he muttered to himself, though he said it loud enough to where I could hear.
I tried ignoring him. I watched intently as Mrs. Hathaway told us to flip to a certain page in our textbooks. I opened up my book, flipping through the pages. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Josh scoot his chair even closer to me. I was doing a great job at ignoring him until I felt his cold hand on my thigh.
I shoved his hand away. "Do you want to lose that hand?"
He shrugged.
I'll take that as a no. "Then I suggest you keep to yourself," I sneered, glaring at him coldly. "Now, move away from me before I'm tempted to break one of your fingers."
He raised his hands in surrender. "Sorry, Ice Princess."
"Don't call me that."
"Sorry," he muttered.

He didn't try to talk to me for the rest of the period, and I was glad when the bell finally rang, indicating that it was lunch time.
I went through the line and got my food. I headed outside and planted myself under my favorite oak tree, and started gnawing on an apple. It was misty this afternoon, and it fet nice against my skin. The air was peacefully silent, but there was a slight breeze that ruffled the grass. I opened my can of Coke, tilted my head back and drank. The fizzy drink raced down my throat and into my stomach, making it tingle. I leaned my head against the tree bark and closed my eyes. So nice, so peaceful...
"Are you sleeping?" A voice suddenly said.
I jumped, a small shriek escaping from my throat. I looked up to see Lex laughing so hard that he was practically rolling on the ground. I placed my hand against my chest and felt the rapid beating of my heart. "Don't sneak up on me like that!"
"You should've seen you face!" He hooted. "Priceless!"
I ignored that. "What are you doing out here?"
He sat down next to me and grabbed my Coke before I could protest. When he took a hearty sip, I glared at him. Chuckling, he sat the Coke down and said, "I should be asking you the same thing."
"What do you mean?"
He rolled his eyes. "Lunch ended about fifteen minutes ago."
"Ah, shit!" I cursed, picking up my trash. I got up and ran to the dumpster, dumping my food into it.
"What's wrong?" Lex asked. He had a cocky smile on his face that was both sexy and annoying all at once.
"I'm late!"
"So?" He raised his brows. "You can skip."
I considered this. "Oh, yeah? With who?"
He shrugged, like it was obvious. "With me, of course. This is my free period, then after this is gym, so I don't think I'll be missing anything important."
I shook my head. "No. No way am I skipping for the rest of the day."
"Oh, c'mon. Don't be such a wimp. It's fun." He twirled his car-keys around his fingers. They quickly became a blur.
"Maybe to you."
"I bet you don't even know how to have fun. All you ever do is play with animals and babysit and work at the clinic. Live a little, will you?"
I crossed my arms over my chest. "That's not true!"
He smirked that beautiful smile again. "Prove me wrong, then."
A million things were running through my head: I didn't want to mess up my grades, but I knew that I wasn't going to miss anything crucial. I do know how to have fun- I just haven't been able to do it in a while since my dad died.
Suddenly, I made up my mind. I knew what I wanted more than anything in this world. I wanted to prove to Lex that he was wrong. And that's exactly what I planned to do.
A/N:
